IN RETRO A 5PECT i ! i ' 1 THE RETROSPECT STAFF of 1958-59 Presents To The Students of SUNFLOWER JUNIOR COLLEGE and MOORHEAD HIGH SCHOOL THIS TREASURY of HOPE AND MEMORY Within these pages you will find a story of hope and memory. It is a story of metal, glass, wood, brick and people. These buildings will be here always, an eternal reminder of fears and ideals and dreams. And the ringing of the school bell somehow seems to solidify the broken images of memory into a coherent story of years of study and fun, anticipation and disillusionment. But to know Sun- flower Junior College and Moorhead High School is to know people and the ideals they have expressed. This campus is only a symbol of the men who have walked upon it. And a familiar scene or laugh or a story bring to mind a hundred different pictures of registration, of homecoming, or home- work, or graduation. Sunflower Junior College and Moorhead High School are people and ideals, but if this book, through its pictures and epigrams, can call to mind just one of these, then it will have served its purpose. Instead, they show up in the fluid world of experiences enriched by her personality; they show up in the lives of peo- ple who have known her. With this in mind, we, the RETROSPECT STAFF, set out to find just such a person. Like a radiant star, this wonderful lady stood out. Cer- tainly, no one has given more of their time, love, and service to Moorhead High School and Sun- flower Junior College. Under her direction, mus- ic has come to be known as one of the most ex- citing and entertaining of all the arts. In her work, she has shown herself to be a respected friend of the student body and of the community. We are proud of these and other contributions she has made to this school and to us. We are proud and we are grateful . Therefore, in recognition of her service, the 1958-59 RETROSPECT STAFF dedicates this year- book to MRS. MILDRED A. YEATES. 1 IN APPRECIATION For the four years of guidance, help, and love she has given us; for the many un- selfish hours she has worked to make each yearbook just a little bit better, and simply because we love and admire her, we the RETROSPECT STAFF, want to say, Thank You to our sponsor, MRS. J. D. STONESTREET. I Hall of Fame W. B. NORTON President In trying times such as these, it is hard to succeed in anything without able leader- ship. Certainly, no school can direct students without competent direction itself. We feel that in our President, W. B. Morton, we have the leadership needed to make our institution one of the most outstanding and admired in this great state of Mississippi. JAMES E. ADAMS B.M. Behind us lie two years of struggle, heartbreak, and happiness two wonderful years at S. J.C. With our first year we came to the sudden realiza- tion that we no longer lived in the happy world of adolescence. We were constantly being exposed to new things new books, new teachers, new idecs, and new friends. Then came our second year and more changes were made. We were given the responsibility of providing able leadership and example for other students. We hove tried to fulfill this order to the best of our abilities. As for the future no one knows what it has in store. But we will always look back on our days at S. J.C. with a hope and a memory. As man continues to probe into the unsolved mysteries of this vast universe, we suddenly be- come aware of the great part education plays in his success. His progress is dependent upon the amount of support he receives from education. We can be proud of S. J.C. ' s progress toward this goal . Within the past year we have witnessed the construction of a new and modernly-equipped library, an extensive campus beautification pro- gram, and an increased student enrollment. The numerous socials, athletic contests, and other events have all added to four complete years. We now find ourselves ready to represent M. H. S. in our many different fields of study.
