She has more than done her share in upholding the philosophy and the objectives that this institution attempts to achieve. In recognition of her unselfish service to the college and high school and to the students, and in deep appre- ciation for the contribution that she has made to the lives of those she has touched, the Retrospect Staff of 1956- 1957 dedicates this yearbook to Miss Dorothy Rice. HISTORY The Sunflower Agricultural High School was est-oblished at Moorhead in 1911 . The institution has had five administrators, B.A. Brady, 1 91 1 -1 91 3; J . H. Sargent, 1913-1918; J.S. Vandiver, 1918-1935; P.M. West, 1935-1944; and W.B. Morton since 1944. The Sunflower Junior College was founded in connection with the Agricultural High School early in 1926, and the first class began work in September, 1926. The college was fully accredited as a two-year junior college in April, 1925, by the Accrediting Commission of the Senior Colleges of Missis- sippi . It was admitted to full membership in the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges in December, 1930 and is o member of the American Association of Junior Col leges . Three counties — Sunflower, Leflore, and Humphreys — contribute to the support of Sunflower Junior College, but its students come, not only from these counties, but also from every corner of North Mississippi. From its simple beginning in 1926, Sunflower Junior Col- lege has come to reach a positive high in the educational system of Mississippi. Its alumni are scattered throughout the whole United States in positions of trust and leadership. The early students and faculty built well, and they have bequeathed to us traditions of loyalty, good sportsmanship, high standards of scholarship, and pride In our school. It is hoped that each new student will do his part in carrying on these traditions. •f of oV BOARD OF TRUSTEES H . L. Grittman L.S. Rogers Otis Allen E.A. Tanner C.J. Edwards W.G. Griffin G.C.
