(e vd. FOREWOR THE 1950 RETROSPECT WILL HAVE FULFILLED ITS PURPOSE IF IT SERVES TO HELP YOU REMEM- BER THE ENJOYABLE EVENTS THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE AT SUNFLOWER JUNIOR COLLEGE AND SUNFLOWER AGRICULTURAL HIGH SCHOOL. WE SINCERELY HOPE THAT THIS BOOK WILL FORM A BOND BETWEEN THE MEMBERS OF THIS YEAR ' S GRADUATING CLASSES, AND THAT ALL WHO READ THIS EDITION WILL REMEMBER OUR DAYS HERE. J DEDICATIO Versatile is the word for Mr. Herman A. Thigpen! A mind that is progressive, an interesting lecturer, a scholar and a sincere teacher — these are some of the qualities that make him one of the best-liked profes- sors on the campus. Mr. Thigpen is sincere and intelligent, and is endowed with a definite interest in his fellow-man. His former students never fail to look him up on any return visits to the campus because of these qualities. In recognition of what he is, and what he has done, we dedicate to Mr. Thigpen the 1950 Retrospect. iP .P -P A IMessage From Our President The school year. 1949-1950. is one that we can justly be proud of. The accomplishments of the faculty and student body have been notable. The spirit among the students has been good and the fine cooperative spirit between the students and the teachers in the carrying on of the learning processes is commendable. With an expanded activities program, including about ninty per cent of the students, much progress is evidenced in the development of student leaders. The fine way in which the athletic teams, the band, the glee club, chorus and other special departments have worked has added extensively to the school spirit and school life. This fine spirit of cooperation and understanding between the teachers and the students is appreciated. The time and energies spent on the publication of the SUNFLOWER PETALS and the RETROSPECT deserve the thanks of all of us. As president may I express to you as students my desire for a greater and finer S. J. C. This, we shdll have through the cooperation and continued labor of the staff, the students and the community.
