HERMAN i 1 PUBLISHED BY The annual Staff of Sunflower Junior College and S. A. H. S. With the help and Cooperation of the Student Body Moorhead, Mississippi Volume 19 3 Memory is the elusive quality of mind that enables us, not only to snatch from some obscure niche of our brain the date neces- sary to pass a history exam, but also to relive at will the gaiety and laughter of our past. We, your annual staff, have prepared this book to make clearer and more graphic these reminiscences of life at S.J.C. and S.A.H.S. so that in after years they will be- come more and more precious . . 4 To you, the young men and women participants in the athletic events of this school, whose love for hard, clean sports and fair play, and whose fine examples of sportsman- ship are in keeping with the highest standards of this institution, we ded- icate this, the 19th volume of th Retrospect. 6 PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE During the session 1947-48, remarkable strides have been made in the development of an all-round program. The spirit of Sunflower Junior College is surging forth. The football team has shown a great spirit to win; the band has made unusual progress; the glee club has become a fine or- ganization; the dramatic club presentations are excellent. We are all justly proud of this fine demonstration of ability and spirit. Sunflower Agricultural High School was founded in 1911. The high school was developed for the purpose of meeting the need of rural boys and girls who did not have access to any other high school. The high school is accredited by the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. Sunflower Junior College was established in 1 926. The junior college has continuously held the respect both of the people it serves and of the senior in- stitutions to which its students go. Sunflower Junior College is a member ot the American Association of Junior Colleges and the Southern Asociation of Secondary Schools and Colleges. Sunflower Junior College and Agriculture High School is trying to meet the needs of the community. With the cooperation of the faculty, student body, citizens of the area, we can plan our program in such a way as to improve our community life and make this a better area in which to live. W. B.
