ADJUSTING TO COLLEGE FOOD MAKING THE SWITCH FROM HOME-COOKED TO SCHOOL-COOKED Dear Mom and Dad, Hi! How goes it homeward way? Good, I hope. Things are still jumpin’ here — I’m as busy as ever. There is a problem, though. Malnutrition is setting in! We’ve all decided that you can only sub-exist on donut sticks and nabs for so long. Do you remember when you ate here at the parents’ luncheon? You complained about how bad the food was. Mom, we would kill for that food! Every day that we walk in “cafe-o- death”, as our wonderful cafeteria is affection- ately called by MC students, is a new taste adventure. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried to choke down a “surf patty”. Actually, the main reason that we go into the cafeteria is to socialize. It is the only place on campus, other than “the wall”, where every- one tends to congregate. By flitting from one table to another and chatting with everyone we know, we are sometimes able to distract our- selves enough to choke down a few bites of food, usually froot-loops or ice cream. Oh, well ... I guess it’s really a blessing that the cafeteria food is so bad — it leaves room for all of those pizzas that we order in the wee hours of the night. Well, I have to go now. It’s time to make that long haul up the circle to eat dinner — hope it’s worth the trip. I’ll be home soon — if not to see y’all, then to get some real food. Love, Kristen P.S. Send vitamins!! DEEP IN THOUGHT — It seems that some students use cafeteria time to re- member a time when dinner was some- thing that you looked forward to. SNAKIN’ IN THE CAFE - Some stu- dents use the cafeteria wisely by catch- ing up on the seldom-allowed fraterni- zation between the sexes. 11
