It is the coordinating force behind practically all student activities of an extracurricular, non-varsity nature. It is a unique student government in that it has voting representatives on every major administrative-faculty committee. Students at MC work through the SBA to solve common problems, and to strengthen the ties that bind them to this institution. The SBK gives to the student an effective voice in the affairs of the college and allows the student to make the policies bv which he is governed. Through the Student Senate the student enaets rules and regulations: through the Judicial Council the student punishes or acquits infractions of the laws: and. finally. through the executive branch of the SBA the student observes the coordination of these and other activities of the Student Body. The association has indeed made great progress. New ideas have been put into operation with the prevailing object of a good student government. Both students and administration cooperate loyallv with the SBA. Congratulations to the Student Body Association for a job well done! MIISSIISSIIIPIPII CIHIOPCTXXWS A year of hope. experimenting, and disappointment, yet a year of interesting and exciting football. This year's Choctaw team, led by the passing of Andy Sumrall, rushing of Travis Eldridge, and the bruising pass receptions of Jamie Jones, the Chocs ended the season with a 5-5 record. Sumrall led the statistics with a total of 1040 yards gained, followed by Eldridge who added 550 yards. Jamie Jones, this yearls most valuable player. caught 44 passes for a total of 578 yards and one TD. One could call this season one of hunting and experimenting. The hunting was that of looking for a quarterback to fill the hole left by Larry Suchy, while the experimenting was that of trying to find players to fill the gap left by the graduation of 12 seniors. Of those lost were the five top rushers and the five top scorers of the '67 team. Returning to ease the experimenting were seven offensive and defensive regulars of last year. Next year, Hopeful!! How about that last game? Senior split end, Jamie jones, was named Most Valuabl Player. Jamie, pulling in 44 passes for 578 yards and one touchdown this season, was also honored by the Jackson Touchdown Club by being chosen as the Chocls most valuable player. Mike Walters, senior tackle, received the Hester-Stone Insurance Best Blocker Trophy. Mike earned his second letter for the Choc's this year. The A. E. May Best Defensive Trophyn went to Senior tackle, Ed Trehern. Ed, who won the same citation last year, was the stalwart of the defensive unit giving many a bruise to an opponent. Tommy Patterson was the recipient of the Edwin '6Goat Hale Most Improved Player Trophy after catching 12 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. Bud O'Hara, second year lettering center, was awarded the Sam Peeples HSportsmanship Trophy. 968469 lBASllilElflBiAlLlL The 1968-69 edition of the Choctaw basketball team was marked by speed and accuracy. Although the team lacked height inside Coach Stute Allen counted on the shooting accuracy of his charges and the fast-breaking offense, which characterizes Mississippi College basketball, to overpower the opponents. Four returning letterman formed the nucleus for a squad which hoped to improve on the 12-10 record of the year before. These letterman plus a few standouts up from the freshman team and some outstanding Coach james . Stale Allen junior college transfers gave the Chocs good depth and hopes for an improvement in the won-loss columns. Left-RightfMo5.v mgr., Pralher, Brabham, Allen, Bruce, Reynolds, Black, Parker. The team made up of Buddy Wagner, Terry Sharpe, Warren Levy, Joe Morgan, and Larry Blancett ran in nine meets this fall only to win two. The '68 season was a good season for some of the runners. Larry Blancett set several new state records including a new Delta State meet record. Terry Sharpe had a consistent season running second only to Blancett. H969 TRACK The 1968 spring track season was a record breaking season. In the running events five new records were recorded: the 440 relay team made up of Eldridge, Corbin, jones and Clack set a new MC record of 43 secondsg Bobby Woodworth ran a 1 minute and 53 seconds 880, Larry Blancett ran the two mile and one mile in 9.23 and 4.16.9 respectively, 440 intermediate hurdles record was set by Steve Nations with a time of 54.2. In the field events Grant McElveen set a new MC pole vault record by vaulting 13 ft. 6 inches. The Chocs also won the majority of their meets, scoring heavily in the Southern Collegiate Track and Field meet to win Hrst place. With most of the runners, jumpers, and vaulters back it looks like another great year for the cinder runners in '69. First row left to right, Walker, Wagner, Blancett. TIENNHS H969 The Choctaw netters, under the direction of Coach lNIcPhail and Carl Prang closed their l68 season with a 4-4 record. The addition of new members was important this year. Both Ralph Bethea and Fred johnson proved invaluable to the team. The leading netters were: Carl Prang and Charles Blackmon in doubles: and, Ralph Bethea and Bobby Hand in the Singles department. Graduation will indeed hurt the '69 hopes but Hand and Bethea will be back slugging. IINTIRAMUIRAIL li ff ff ' A ung , ,L v 4, any T, 7 ' Q 3 V 2 qv sau, pf J www ,W K Va W.
