Arbuckle keep our school clean and neat. lf it had not been for these boys working overtime, the building would have been as we left it every afternoon - not too neat. These girls were always helpful through their work in the offices of the principal and the deans. They collected the absentee slips and tardy slips each period of the day and kept an accurate record of attendance. Whenever there was typing to he done, an errand to be run, or other general office work, they could be counted on. The ones pictured are only a few of the girls who assisted. This is a group of students who assisted in the work of the library by furnishing the rooms with dictionaries, caring for incoming new magazines and books. and keeping these in order. Their duties included repairing books. maintaining a magazine reference library, and preparing bulletin board displays. They always had the experienced guid- ance of Mrs. Terrell. ilk! Three office girls helped to keep the Principal,s and Superintendentls offices running smoothly and efficiently. Marjorie Barker, clerk in the Principalis office, performed a variety of duties originating in the office and also had charge of the bookstore. Mary Royse. not pictured. undertook these duties of Mrs. Barker's when she left. Gertrude Crosby was the activity bookkeeper. Kathryn kept accounts for the School Board. if I Here is a very important team at M.H.S. Every student and teacher will agree that our cooks were the champs. Besides serving a daily lunch, they prepared meals for the ball teams after the away games. Familiar Faces Mr. Gosser and Mr. Arbuckle are the two janitors whose responsibility is to keep the build- ing in good order. They seemed to be always at hand when we needed their help so badly. tl? PQ Nz ' The Photography Club. sponsored by Mr. Meyer. was formed for the purpose of learning more about the taking and developing of pictures. A few members of the club processed pictures for the school paper and also took some snapshots and processed them for the Pow Wow. The group sponsored the exhibit of the winning photos of the National Photography contest. They assisted in the production of the three one-act plays through publicity photography. Hi-Y The Hi-Y Club, sponsored by Mr. Harry F. Treber, corresponds to the Tri-Hi-Y in its aims and purposes. Its membership is open to boys only. The members attended two dis- trict meetings as part of their club activity for the year. They spon- sored the basketball programs that were given to all spectators. At one of the basketball games they collected money for the polio fund. The club members also sponsored the Easter program. The officers elected by the group were as follows: Lawrence Barker, presidentg Russell Bruch fnot picturedl, vice presidentg and Pete Nesbitt, secretary-treas- urer. This is the first year for our school to use a double cast, and it worked very nicely. The story is about the Collins family which includes shy, mousy Elsie, and kid sister Kathy . After just moving into a new town Kathy tells everyone her sister Eloise7' was very beautiful and had been terribly popular. Elsie has to live up to her reputation or be humiliated, but she really wins in the end. I 3 l tl In the junior hit comedy, Backwoods Romeof' Romeo Montague, a 21- year-old young scientist from the wilds of Canada who had never seen a woman before, came to visit his friends, Larry McNeil and Rex Simons. He learned about women very quickly when he met Larry's sisters, Connie and Billie. The comedy was hightened with the appearance of the Speedee Movers, a group of four slow- moving ladies UD dressed in coveralls and their outspoken leader, who insisted that they must take the furniture because it had not been paid for. Meanwhile the naive Romeo was introduced to civilization in the raw. He felt drunk after learning how to kiss from Connie, his teacher at the moment, and he was taken aback at the slang that all of them used, The play reached a climax when Romeo's ABCD bomb proved to be not an atomic discovery, but an excellent cure for a common cold, and when the quick-to-run Rex was found to be really courageous for rescuing a manfrom a burning car. All were happy as the curtain closed - Romeo had his Connie, Rex and Billie had reconciled their differences, and Larry and Orpha found they could be happy together. The student directors assisted in the learning of lines and rehearsals. The stage man- ager and assistants had the responsibility of curtains, sound effects, and lighting. The properties committee was responsible for collecting all properties needed on the stage. The make-up committee was given the task of applying the stage make-up to the cast.
