MRS. PAT COPELAND Home Economics I,II,III and IV Boys Home Economics The home economics program at Mississinawa Valley for the present school year has included home economics I, II,III, and a special class for high school boys. Within the vocational program, six areas of work are to be cov- ered each year. A girl advances deeper into the subject with each grade level. Included in the program of work are: consumer education, home management of time, money and services, foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, child development, and personal and family relations. The girls in Mrs. Butch's P. E. classes have learned the fundamen- tals and skills of a variety of activi- ties. Some of these have been soc- cer, power volleyball, gymanstics, badminton, archery, softball, track and field, and recreational games and relays. All of these try to help each student in learning how to participate in team, individual, and recreational activities. MRS. COLLEEN BUTCH High School and junior High Physical Education, Health, Home Economics I, Boys Home Economics MR. TRACE SNYDER High School and Junior High Physical Education, Health, and Drivers' Education Before Mr. Snyder's P.E. Classes began the activities in the fall, they had the AAHPER Physical Fitness Test. This test will be given again in the spring to evaluate whether an individ- ual's physical fitness has im- proved. Some of the activities the boys participated in were flag football, volleyball, bas- ketball, gymnastics and tumbl- ing, softball, golf and archery, floor hockey, dodgeball, and whiffleball. 35

Vocational Agriculture is a combination of classroom instruc- tion and on the job training. This year the vo. ag. boys have pursued class areas in livestock feeding, soil judging, fertility practices, and economic condi- tions of agriculture products. On the job training is done in three general areas: 1. in the school shop, 2. on the home farm, and 3. on the job training by coop- erative education. MR. KURT JOHNSTON Agri-Business I and II Vocational Agriculture I and II MR. RON PIERCE Agri-Business I Vocational Agriculture III and IV At school, there has been machinery and tractor mainte- nance, construction feeders, and livestock equipment, ana small engine repair. On the home farm, students have completely varied programs ranging from rabbits to dairy cattle, including crop pro- duction. The cooperative program this year has as many varied ex- periences as possible in the time spent. A vocational agriculture program at Mississinawa Valley is as varied as agriculture nation- wide. The boys in industrial arts study such things as woodwork- ing, metal-working, drafting, welding, and machines. The freshman boys study the funda- mentals of drafting, do basic construction of the red barns, and work simple woodworking kits. The sophomore boys are taught advanced drafting and are introduced to metal work- ing, welding, and machines. The junior boys are special- ized in woodworking, machines, and welding. The general math class has been reviewing the basic general mathematical operations on whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. They also had an in- troductxy unit on algebra and on personal finance. The algebra 1 and II classes have been studying the fundamental properties of algebra involving one and two variables and some trigonometry. MR. JOHN BUTCH Algebra I and II, Math 9, Senior Math MRS. VIRGINIA CARNOT Physics, English 9 and 10, Chemistry The English 9 students have studied the short story including selections by Edgar Allan Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Jesse Stuart. They have also studied spelling, vocabulary words, agreement of verbs, and the use of the library. Writing themes and reading books for reports were other things on the agenda. In Mrs. Oswalt's biology class, she teaches the functional know- ledge of various living organisms and the processes and principles involved in their life activities. In her advanced biology class, the students dissected preserved cats and fetal pigs received from the Wright State University branch at Celina. MRS.
