Pointing up the importance of communication four teachers at MV taught classes daily devoted primarily to conveying thoughts and ideas. English encouraged reading for background and em- phasized self expression in speak- ing and writing the native lan- guage. Freshman English classes read ROMEO AND JULIET and TALE OF TWO CITIES. Juniors acquired more than a passing acquaintance with THE GLASS MENAGERIE. MRS. MADELINE CHRYSTOWSKI Speech 1 and II English 9,11, and 12. MRS. THETIS GREENLEE English 9 French I and II The French I classes have tried hard to master the spoken French. They have used the tapes over and over and have drilled by reading the daily exer- cises. Besides this, they have had several French films and slides showing the daily life and culture of the French people. The French II students have, in addition to the study of the text, used the accompanying tapes for drilling in pronunciation. They have also conversed in French and written character sketches. Beginning typing students learned proper keyboard reaches and the correct operating tech- niques of typing business letters, manuscripts, and reports. Many students earned recognition pins as they achieved specified goals of speed and accuracy set up by the business department staff. MRS. JOYCE YARBROUGH Typing English 9 32

Vocational Agriculture is a combination of classroom instruc- tion and on the job training. This year the vo. ag. boys have pursued class areas in livestock feeding, soil judging, fertility practices, and economic condi- tions of agriculture products. On the job training is done in three general areas: 1. in the school shop, 2. on the home farm, and 3. on the job training by coop- erative education. MR. KURT JOHNSTON Agri-Business I and II Vocational Agriculture I and II MR. RON PIERCE Agri-Business I Vocational Agriculture III and IV At school, there has been machinery and tractor mainte- nance, construction feeders, and livestock equipment, ana small engine repair. On the home farm, students have completely varied programs ranging from rabbits to dairy cattle, including crop pro- duction. The cooperative program this year has as many varied ex- periences as possible in the time spent. A vocational agriculture program at Mississinawa Valley is as varied as agriculture nation- wide. The boys in industrial arts study such things as woodwork- ing, metal-working, drafting, welding, and machines. The freshman boys study the funda- mentals of drafting, do basic construction of the red barns, and work simple woodworking kits. The sophomore boys are taught advanced drafting and are introduced to metal work- ing, welding, and machines. The junior boys are special- ized in woodworking, machines, and welding. The senior boys do individual study in the field they desire. MR. FREDRUHE Industrial Arts I, II, III, and IV 34
