Pointing up the importance of communication four teachers at MV taught classes daily devoted primarily to conveying thoughts and ideas. English encouraged reading for background and em- phasized self expression in speak- ing and writing the native lan- guage. Freshman English classes read ROMEO AND JULIET and TALE OF TWO CITIES. Juniors acquired more than a passing acquaintance with THE GLASS MENAGERIE. MRS. MADELINE CHRYSTOWSKI Speech 1 and II English 9,11, and 12. MRS. THETIS GREENLEE English 9 French I and II The French I classes have tried hard to master the spoken French. They have used the tapes over and over and have drilled by reading the daily exer- cises. Besides this, they have had several French films and slides showing the daily life and culture of the French people. The French II students have, in addition to the study of the text, used the accompanying tapes for drilling in pronunciation. They have also conversed in French and written character sketches. Beginning typing students learned proper keyboard reaches and the correct operating tech- niques of typing business letters, manuscripts, and reports. Many students earned recognition pins as they achieved specified goals of speed and accuracy set up by the business department staff. MRS. JOYCE YARBROUGH Typing English 9 32
