DEDICATICD Poised, and at times seemingly passive, this man, with an inherent reserve, is possessed, under a surface calm, of strong principles, a warm compassion, an incisive intelligence, and a significant faith. I-Iis recent appointment as Dean of the faculty is evidence that his peers have confidence in himg his annual election to the advisorship of the senior class indicates that his students have respect for himg and the frequent campus discussions of his lec- tures affirm that his proteges are challenged by him. A successful family man, a major in the army chaplains' corps, a Ph.D. candidate, chair- man of numerous committees and a member of others - with all this in addition to his other duties, he is always not only willing but anxious to be of service to the questing student, and to give words of help and guidance to the one who needs the light touch of a strong hand. To this man, the Rev. Thomas Paul Bailey, we respectfully dedicate this book. Page 9
