Bailey Page 8 DEDICATICD Poised, and at times seemingly passive, this man, with an inherent reserve, is possessed, under a surface calm, of strong principles, a warm compassion, an incisive intelligence, and a significant faith. I-Iis recent appointment as Dean of the faculty is evidence that his peers have confidence in himg his annual election to the advisorship of the senior class indicates that his students have respect for himg and the frequent campus discussions of his lec- tures affirm that his proteges are challenged by him. A successful family man, a major in the army chaplains' corps, a Ph.D. candidate, chair- man of numerous committees and a member of others - with all this in addition to his other duties, he is always not only willing but anxious to be of service to the questing student, and to give words of help and guidance to the one who needs the light touch of a strong hand. To this man, the Rev. Thomas Paul Bailey, we respectfully dedicate this book. Page 9 CI-IRISTIE l-I LL The newest of the col- lege buildings, Christie l-lall was built in 1945 and named for the late Rev. BOON, Ph.D.. ACTING PRESIDENT Nyack Missionary College was founded by Dr. A. B. Simpson to prepare young people for the service of God at home and abroad. The need for such preparation is even greater novv because of the day in which we live. We have assumed the duties of the office of the president with a keen sense of dependence upon God. Only the best in spiritual and academic training will do, A strong faculty, ade- quate buildings and equipment, and a thorough curriculum are essential. But these are only means to an end and not ends in themselves. The success of any college is measured by its product. Our supreme desire is to graduate capable students thoroughly grounded in the VVord of God, filled with the Holy Spirit, who possess the necessary skills for effective service for Christ and His kingdom. Missions Through 37 years of steady, thorough missionary endeav- or, Rev. and Mrs. Garrison labored toward the fulfill- ment ot one consuming ob- jective - to see the Indian Church on its feet. Incited by his parents and other soldiers of the cross, Mr. Garrison en- tered India in 1909 having graduated from Nyack the previous spring. To Mr. Garrison. missions is more than 10,000 miles or a trip to the Orient. For him it is a life-giving process which afforded pioneer min- istry and, through 14 years, the opportunity of cultivating within the hearts of Nyack students the feeling, purpose and need of missions. Now. 1959 closes a second phase of ministry. Though time and distance separate us, our lives will ever retain the imprint of two whose quiet, earnest, dedicated testi- : sr , Mr. and Mrs. Garrison monies inspired many to con- secrated missionary service. Page 90 MISSIG S DAILY MISSIONARY INTERCESSION The students have a definite share in the daily routine of the missionaries. As native Christians struggle to grasp the scriptures, as difficult tongues are deciphered, as lepers are cleansed and healed, we claim the victories with them as we exercise our privilege at the Mercy Seat. Four outstanding students of God's Word endeavor to communicate the urgency of presenting the Gospel of de- liverance to perishing millions. Whether sharing common experiences or privately searching for the treasures of God's Word, an eagerness is manifested to become stablized and mature in the Christian walk. Page 108 The spiritual progress of C-od's people only comes as they pray and seek his face and turn from their sinful Ways. Revival meetings at the beginning of each semester are designed to bring about an awareness of campus needs, and experienced men of God have pointed us to the road of obedience during these weeks of heart- searching and blessing. These services have tended to bring many into a deeper communion with the Lord and have served to prepare the Hillside Family for the months ahead. They ' have become an integral part of the year's events and an occasion of anticipation as God's people expect great things from his hand. H. Lawrence Love Spring Speaker nfs' V. The fast break, Weaving and screening, and man-to-man defense became their stock in trade, and though underslung, they made things tough for the opponents in every game. Realizing that the most important thing to come from the court is not the greatest point accumulation, they nevertheless play with a sharp competitive spirit and a real desire to win. There is hope, anticipation, planning, work, desire. There is victory, defeat, all within the confines of forty short playing minutes. The Logicians Society is an honor organization dedicated primarily to the development of logical thought, effective speaking and an appreciation of the fine arts. This is accomplished through monthly meetings which may range all the way from a strictly formal initiation service, through a program with an outside lecturer, or one of the impromptu lectures by the members themselves, or even a very informal and quiet evening spent around a blazing fireplace with 'seasonal music provided by a high fidelity record player. Those who are members of the 1958-59 group are: Row 1, l. to r.: Lavora Blose, Nada Loomis, Lorenda Drake, Margaret Abernathy, Kathleen Thomas. Row 2: Patsy Ballard, Kathrine Fisher. Row 3: Kathleen Flaherty, Lillian Knowles, Ruth Retallack, Eileen Balck, Barbara Douglas, Nancy Jones, Janice Heffer, Kathrine Allison, Janet King, Susan Lux, Anita Clayton, Carl Mucke, Janet Marshall, T. Every competitor in athletic events goes into serious training. Athletes will take tremendous pains - for a fading crown of leaves. But our contest is for an eternal crown that will never fade. I run the race then with determination. I am no shadowlooxer, I really fight! I am my lJody's sternest master, for fear that when I have preached to others I should myself he disqualified.
