The links of this ' are too numerous to mention them each by name. There are theflihillipmes, where many of our missionaries were interned for long months.--fThere,are'the Netherlands East Indies, where several brave heralds of light laid down ' ives during the cruel years of war. There is also Japan, whose, i ron shook the world during years of death and blood-shed. These are only the most frequently mentioned of the islands of the sea, all of which have lain for long centuries in the lap of the wicked one. Many of these islands are as yet scarcely touched by civilization. The whole Island world cries out in the words of the prophet Isaiah: 'We wait for light, but behold obscurity: for bjghtf ness, but we walk in darkness! ONE day when Piedros was investigating at dead man's trunk, he discovered an unusual pam- phlet. When he was informed by his 'neighbors that his discovery was a portion of the Bible, he visited a man who owned such a book, a Christian in a near-by village. As a result of his visit Piedros was soundly con- verted: however, he soon realized with deep re- gret that he could not read this new-found treas- ure. He prayed fervently that God would open his eyes and enlighten his mind. His prayer was an- swered! Now a chapel stands over the spot where Pied'ros found' the Scripture portion, and? thirty sincere Christians gather for worship at five o'clock ' Q ll lg. vigil Evil Outh I 4 . ,VI 6 l IIIGIICS .
