Though peace has come to us, Indo-China is still'torn by iiivlptrife. ,The Nationalist Party, organized by the natives to overthroyber-ffl-fdornination, is fighting fiendishly for independence. French and Annamese alike are being slaughtered without mercy. Furthermore, the rice harvest failed last year in Tonkin and Annam, resulting in a death toll of over a million . . . a million lost souls who died without hope. The province of Laos is still practically untouched and Buddhistic Cambodia is a pioneer field in itself. Tonkin, Annam, and Siam are in dire needfoff new recruits. But that is not all. The iungles of Indo-China are inhabited by over l20 pagan tribes, of which scarcely thirty have had a wVEness: 'Scores of un- subdued tribes have never seen the face of a whitg, man a'ndi their languages are still unwritten. All of them live in St'ygianfdaTkness-e-and are shackled by con- fining chains of superstition and the dread of evil spirits. Ohl how they need Christ! .eff I wish that you Myounfpeople could for one night hear the sound of heathen gongs: the chanting' of meaningless prayers by Buddhist priests, the wild, blood- chilling shrieks of sorcerers and witch doctors as they work over their victims the heart-rending moan of an anguished mother as she watches her suffering baby die. Coals of fire have been placed on his bare chest to drive out the evil spirits, but to no avail. l would that you could see with your own eyes her expressionless, joyless face, fixed in sodden hopelessness as she prostrates her- self before a wooden idol. Her arms are empty . . . her heart is broken, and her god offers no comfort. L I repeat . . . if you could hear and see such sights, your heart would' be moved with such deep compassion that you could' not resist God's call' to go and I tell these lost ones of Jesus. xpy, 'f,-f-1gJ,:fi'f sTEBBINs .ff fig' A yimhxdk A A I1 0 ' . I 24-alfa! KING IPAY met the missionary at the entrance of a Borneo village. The old chief was a scoundrel. Incorrigible , the authorities called him as they warned the missionary. But Ipay heard the Gospel, and on one of several visits to the chief's village the missionary again held a service. During the talk Ipay startled everyone and interrupted the service by shouting, Stop, stopl If this is all true-and I believe it is, this is for us! He turned to his people and announced' that he was becoming a Christian. My children, do you not see it as I see it? One after another they stood and said that they, too, saw the light. From that group were baptized 225 to the honor of God. lslan S
