Q in w 1 ! 1 Contents 2 4 Dedication Mrs. Poteet: Committed The Mission Viejo High School Yearbook Staff proudly dedicates the 1983-84 E1 Viejo to Mrs. Charlene Poteet. Although her face is not as widely seen across the campus as some of her other faculty counterparts, Mrs. Poteet is the epitome of a hero behind the scenes. After join- ing the staff in September of 1979, Mrs. Poteet undertook the monumental task of ASB Ac- counts Clerk and Secretary to the Activities Di- rector. Mrs. Poteet is also responsible for all student activity finances, making things unbe- lievably easy and organized for all students. Any- one who has ever purchased a yearbook or an ASB or shop card, knows of her warmth and friendliness in her interactions with the student body. As students, we feel her talents and accom- 1 plishments have gone unacknowledged and it is for this reason that we dedicate this annual to her. Thank You Mrs. Poteet for your commit- ment to excellence. To Excellence QU! The activi- ties of Spirit Week were full of fun and excitement for all. The Home- coming game was also a spectacular event. The half-time show included a flame-dancer, two beautiful Ta- hittian dancers, and a mini-hula dancer to follow the Hawiian theme of Homecoming. And of course our new Homecoming Queen, Kim Ed- wards, was crowned by last years Queen Shelly Billups. The Diablo football team also put up a tremen- dous fight against the Woodbridge Warriors. All in all the over all event was a day to remember. M Hey baby let's party! ll0 Baby Day Once again Mission Viejo High School was invaded by diaper clad seniors. Weary- eyed from Baby Night festivi- ties, the seniors arrived bright and early for the senior break- fast held by the PTSO. The babies also participated in snack and lunch-time activi- ties, such as Red Rover and Duck-Duck-Goose. The class of 1984 really showed that ba- bies have more fun. ff' A - . Without an advisor's extra time and effort, clubs offering the students additional activities would not be possible. The student body would like to offer their thanks to all those faculty members who participate as advisors in these clubs and organi- zations. Thanks!! M.V.H.S. Your time in high school has been recorded as a place in history. My sincere hope is that you can and will remember Mission Viejo High School as a place of personal satisfac- tion and hard work, a place where you were prepared to meet the trials and tribulations of the future. William Mathews, in speaking of Durable Satisfaction, once said a great deal of life consists in doing perfectly, or at least to the best of one's ability, everything which he attempts to do. There is a sense of satisfaction, a pride in surveying such a work a work which is rounded, full, exact, complete in all its parts . . . which the superficial man, who leaves his work in a slovenly, slipshod, half-finished condi- tion, can never know. lt is this conscientious completeness which work into art. The smallest thing, well done, becomes artistic. Mission Viejo High School is a better place be- cause you were here. l continue to be hopeful that you will always remember that its only worth having when its worth working for and you are satisfied with the outcome. I 've shut the door on yesterday And thrown the key away- To-morrow holds no fears for me, Since I have found today One day at a time-this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering. 268 Closing 'J l l l l We, the editors of the 1983-84 El Viejo, hope that this yearl book will mark not so much the end of another school year, bug instead mark a new beginningg for the seniors who will begin i new life in the adult world, for the underclassmen who will movl up another step on the ladder towards graduation, and for th1 teacher and administration who will once again shed their knowl edge upon a new class of students. Also, we would like to thanl our advisor Ron Galey, our publishers rep. Steve Wagner, any our entire El Viejo staff for their time, effort, and dedication ii producing the greatest yearbook ever! Without you, the 1983-84 El Viejo would not have been possible. i For the entire student body of M.V.H.S., we hope this yeaii book will hold many fond memories of the past and inspirl dreams .for the future.
