After getting off to a great start by whipping Saddleback and Costa Mesa back to back the Mission Machine was rated No. 1 in the 2A football polls. Then a heartbreaking loss to El Dorado dropped Mission from the top. The league season became a disappointment. The Diablos suffered consecutive defeats at the hands of University and El Toro and then fell in a bid for the play-off vs. Dana Hills.
