Baseball team started off by winning the first eleven games of the season showing they were bound to be South Coast League champs. Gary Knopoff and Steve Polien, the starting pitchers, hoped to bury Mission's opponents under the plate. The team this year was a combination of experienced Sophomore and Junior Baseball players. This experience gave the team great speed on infield plays. The infield was one of the strongest we've had. commented Coach Peters. Most of this strength came from Dave Read playing first base, and Jim Read playing shortstop. All in all this year's J.V. Baseball team shows high prospects for next year's varsity team. . ,. ' Frosh-Soph Score! Sophomore outfielder AI Penasa. runs out another basehit for the Mission Coach Joe Reid's teaching paid off as one of his charges slugs one for extra bases. Machine. For years Coach Joe Reid had the unenviable task of taking a predominantly Freshman team into the Crestview League whose member schools only went down to tenth graders. ln 1975 Coach Reid was finally playing the games on even terms and had the results to show for it. The fresh-soph moundmen had one of their top seasons, at last were able to take on competition their own age in the newly formed South Coast League.
