M.V. SWIM TEAM: CIF TITLE BCDUND 1975 Swim Team: Row 13 Mark Manley, Diver Bruce Hobbs, Gary Bush, Mike Woods, Steve Hall, Geoff Lee, Dan Eby, Terry Murphy, Coach Mark Schubert. Row 2: Valerie Lee, Brian Goodell, Bill Jackson, Becky McCafferty, Mike Bush, Kelly Murphy, Kim Raymont, Steve Braun, Julie Gray, Michelle Zeramby. Row 3: Diver Bill Gerrard, Brian Lonsdale, Jeff Scolman, Taylor Howe, Cari Okasaki, Dave Duckworth, Larry Homiwitz, Ron Henderson, Tom Ray, Craig Fransen, Coach Doug Burt. Bringing home Mission Viejo's first CIF crown was Coach Mark Taylor Howe seems pleased about his latest times Schubert and his swimmers. All the work of grueling 6 a.m. practices paid off with a fantastic 9-1 season, along with their CIF title. Bill Gerrard got the team offand running with an excellent fourth place finish in the diving competition, paving the way for MV's title hopes. On the swimming side Cari Okasaki, Dave Duckworth, Taylor Howe, Brian Lonsdale, Brian Goodell, Tom Ray and Jeff Scolman. Women swimmers Beckie McCafferty, Valerie Lee, Julie Gray, and Kelly Murphy qualified for Women's All- American with their relay team. Boseooll Strikes Forth Diablo reliever Steve Pollien uncorks a blazing fastball past a Tustin batter in pre-league action. I Hitting was the key for Coach Harry Hilke and his Diablo Niners. The consistent bats of Dave Cooper, Jim Clouse, Greg Perry, Tony Richardson, and Eric Schmidt, plus the power of Dave Schmidt and Darrell Garner got the Mission Machine a bundle of runs. Unfortunately. a leaky defense and questionable mound corps gave up almost as many. Mission's pitching staff could be summed up with two words, Tim Taylor. When the slightly built senior was not starting he was often coming in to relieve and attempt to put out fires sparked by MV's other starters. Despite the inconsistent pitching, Coach Hilke rated his men serious contenders for South Coast League honors. ll G k b' t in order to ut one out of Mission Viejo territory. MV slugger Dave Schmidt laces one for extra bases on opening day.
