Coach Chuck Greva and his JV duffers plan ahead for their shot on the varsity team. lt has been said that in sports the hardest thing to do is repeat as a champion. This is the task that was facing the 1975 Golf team as South Coast League play got underway. Coach Bob Minier and his 1974 duffers won a CIF title, the first ever for Mission Viejo High School. This season's team was without three members of last years victors which made the defending champions job that much tougher. Coach Minier was looking toward Ted Cumming and Mark O'Meara to get the Diablos past favored San Clemente in 1975 match play and lead his team to another crown. Tennis Nets Love Varsity Tennis: Front - Brian Twining, Gary Griffith, Mark Severson, Larry Hazell. Back - Coach Bill Smith Tim Fuller, Pat Griffiths, John Fears, Steve Mathison, Dave Rattray. This was the rebuilding year for Coach Bill Smith's JV Tennis team. The Diablos were missing a solid team leader and a good doubles team. According to Coach Smith. these deficiencies were too much for his team to overcome in the tough South Coast League. Pat Griffith, John Frears and Brian Twining anchored the varsity while hard driving Gary Griffith split time between the varsity and JV squads. Both Coach Smith and his able assistant, Dick Flobbins, feel that if their players continue to work hard they could be championship contenders for years to come.
