Who hears more ' amazing stories ' than anyone- How about attendance secretory, Mrs TrejO (bottom). AMAZING STORIES This year marked the debut of a new tele- vision series. The new show called ' Amaz- ing Stories ' featured short stories that de- fied believability. For example, in one epi- sode an Air Force gunner, returning home from a mission, is trapped in the turret of a bomber that cannot bring down its landing gear. Since the turret is on the belly of the airplane, the gunner faces certain death during the inevitable crash landing. Desperately he, being a cartoonist, draws a cartoon oirplane with big balloon tires. Miraculously fantasy becomes reality and the plane lands on big balloon tires that vanish when everyone is safely off the plane Far-fetched ' Unbelievable ' Well yes, but that ' s what makes it on amazing story It should come as no surprise that a school, with as many amazing accomplish- ments as Mission, has its own collection of ' Amazing Stories ' . The only difference be- tween our collection of stories and that of the T.V. show is that ours are true. Here ' s a humorous sompling from the Mission col- lection of ' Amazing Stories ' : Our counselor, Mr. Papavero, recalls sev- eral stories that qualify as ' amazing ' like this amazing explanation offered by a stu- dent when he and another boy were sent to the office for scuffling. He kept putting my feet on his desk . . . and I didn ' t want to get into trouble for him beating me up ' Here ' s a note Mr. Papavero received from a student ' s parent: My child IS failing She got a poor work slip for not doing her homework and not taking responsibility. That ' s a darn lie be- cause I do her homework every night! A student who didn ' t bring his homework offered the explanation to Ms. Havey that his house had been recarpeted the day be- fore and his homework had somebow been sealed beneath the new carpet. Unfortu- nately for our storyteller, another student brought in his incomplete homework as- signment explaining to Ms. Havey that he ' d found It on the black-top! This year, Renoe Austin hod a great time on a school holiday. She was just o little embarrassed the next day, however, when she found out that it was the following Monday that was the holiday!
