AF A Cultural Exchange Back: Mrs. Halkola, Kathy Danzig, Maria Alvarez, Jennifer Joldersma Front: Abby Miedema, T ara Dorman AFS Advisor Mrs. Halkola 20 A.F.S. President Abby Miedema .B.H.S. has had an active American Field Service KAFSJ Club for the past 27 years. AFS is an international organi- zation to expand their views of the world sponsoring stu- dents to live in different countries. Foreign students are placed with families with similar interests. T o sponsor their activities the club sold concessions at Buc games. At Mission Bay's AFS Weekend, students from all over San Diego County spent the weekend sharing with each other and learning about each other.

Friends from A ar Efffflllllge Silldellf, Vera 0111110 f 0m Spain- Carol Cappeliez, French exchange student. Vera'.s host family - Misha, Stephen, Aniko, and Dona Willoughby ission Bay welcomed two exchange students to its campus, Vera Olano and Carol Cappeliez. Vera is from Spain. She has no brothers or sisters, but with her host family, she has two little sisters, Aniko C112 and Misha I9j, and host parents, Stephen and Dona Willoughby. Vera enjoys listening to music and going to the beach, she also played on M.B. 's Varsity Tennis Team. Carol comes to usfrom France. She has a twin sister, also in AFS in Wisconsin, and is staying with Gene and Pam Lampson. Carol was active in Speech and Debate and in Key Club. She enjoys reading and water sports. Both girls enjoyed their stay in America, and Mission Bay was lucky to have two such charming exchange students.
