Student organizations have flourished. We have a well-organized student government which provides many opportunities for learning and practicing democratic techniques and procedures. Our band is among the best. Our drill team is second to none. Our school paper is tops, and on a sound financial basis - thanks to the fine spirit of our students. Our Service Club, Girls' League, Key Club, Girls' Athletic Association and Lettermen's Club are among the student organizations constantly on the alert to make Mission Bay a better place for boys and girls. How have we accomplished these things in so short a time? Much credit is due to the caliber of students we have, and to the fine homes from which they come. Interested and enthusiastic teachers have also played an impor- tant part. Finally, we owe much to the spirit of the community in which we work. Not once has the community failed to respond enthusiastically when the school or any of its organizations were in need. This cooperation has made it possible for us to accomplish what very few schools have been able to achieve in so short a time. ln dedicating Mission Bay's first annual to the community, we feel that the students have found a' fitting and proper way to express their appreciation of the community's interest and cooperation. Q 770 Q . Mrs. Stubbs Deon Mr. Houser Vice-Principal Everyone knows the impor- tance of navigators aboard a ship. With their graphs, maps, sextants and tables, they chart its course through dangerous waters. We can compare our fac- ulty, using books, chalk and blackboards as instruments, to the navigators charting a Mathematics Department, 'eff N nght: Mr. Crabtree, Mr. Byrnes, Mr Rimmele, Mr. Nordstrom, Mr. Goodenough. course. The administrators are their chief helpers in keeping log books up to date, the crew intact, and a generally trim ship. Tarago has one of the finest teaching and adminis- trative staffs in the school system, and the crew's success has been largely due to their efforts. As Seniors we revised our constitution, elected officers, collected dues, put on a dance called Shipwreck, and produced the play Life of the Party, which ran for three successful days. The best time of the year came for the Old Salts on May 20th when we had our ditch day at Big Oak Ranch. After that, the days seemed to fly, and soon all were enjoying a fabulous evening at our Senior Prom, which was held at the Town and Country Club. Vespers at Christ Lutheran Church was soon in our history, and at the Senior Breakfast the Old Salts had a' good time discussing graduation, which thrilled our hearts the following day and ended our high school career. illtfv nf 1112 1Hartg Qlnrtam Fbfunv NAME ..... .,... The sail was then hoisted and elections got under way. There was plenty of wind in the sails all year, to keep the ship going. The juniors have completed their training, and are ready to step into the position of leaders as the Old Salts re- tire. 3 sew? ,9f37f ' ' . I .44 '4 '-2655 if 'iafai . Every cadet proudly wears the red star of an honor school, despite the fact that their armory burned and there were no senior officers. The boys did a great deal for the school by guarding at games, raising and lowering the flag, and being dependable when called on. Exhibitions of their skills were given in pa- rades and in rifle team firing at Fort Rosecrans. All was not work and no fun though. Social events were plentiful, the biggest being the R.O.T.C. Ball, where the boys elected a beauty queen and her attendants. 9.9 g 9 nnuu ion unoonl nn. Svrhnnl Again ,J if x ,J X . Football opened the year with eighty boys coming out to make the J.V. squad a strong competitor against the older and more established schools. Football record: seven wins, two losses Winter approached, and the boys moved indoors to try their luck at basketball in a varsity standing. The team had a good start, but the experience ot the older schools' teams made competition tough. The team fought on bravely and made a good showing. Basketball record: two wins, ten losses Again the sun came out, and so did new members for the track and baseball teams. Going through the season with the dis- advantage of a young and inexperienced squad, the Mission Bay track team had a difficult season. Many ot its members set records, and all showed ability which will help the young team improve considerably next year. A new baseball team stepped up to bat among the established teams. This new varsity squad has shown excellent team- work, and has been a strong competitor in league play. 1 I ALS' , lil r f X 15' ' , X , .. 1, A 9 ' f v 1 v ilhinthzlll Q N .. f-4' Q - . -..-- Q, o ri .gkmm . uvwg Anderso V 1' Hflrgiw 'n Hrs! row enb , leff I' R Lurg , L .
