V Bruhn CHHDANCE The Student Council consists of 3 students from each ofthe four classes. The duty of these students is to rep- resent the class to which they belong. A student council member is expected to make decisions which he thinks will benefit his fellow students. This year the student council held meetings every other week. At these meet- ings they had discussions on items of interest to the students. The main topics of discussion were the open- ing of the gym for recreation at noon, a roller-skating party, corridor benches, and trying to obtain permis- sion to hold a school picnic from the school board. Representing the senior class were Tom Arkens, Kay Bergner, and Judy Eells. From the junior class came Dave Holmes, Don Holmes, and Bonnie Budysz. The sophomores were represented by Julie Rhein, Gary Princl, and Steve Koch. Terry Loberger, Judy Wiltert, and Bob Dvorak were representatives ot the freshmen. Mr. Kain acted as our advisor. The Student Council received student council pins toward the end of the year for their hard work in try- ing to represent the students and acting as the voice of the student body. MR. Arkens, Mr. Kain PATRIUTISM KAY BERGNER THOMAS ARKENS The Twelve members of Student Council have put into eFfect the system of raising and lowering the American Flag each school day, when the weather per- mits. The flag is located at the front entrance of the high school. The flag waves freely in the breeze from the beginning of the first hour class to the end of the sev- enth hour class. The Student Council, representing the students from every class in the school government, feels that the Mishicot students are proud of the American flag and what it stands for. They are grateful to be living in the United States of America, where freedom rings out from coast to coast. They don't look at this duty as a task but as an honor to serve their country. The flag raisers are Kay Bergner and Tom Arkens, senior members of Student Council. Officers elected for the 1968-69 school year were as follows: Patsy Krainik - President, Suzy Stueck, Vice-President, Bonnie Budysz - Secretary, Judy Eells - Treasurer. Advisor of this club was Miss Merilyn Roth, the girls physical education instructor. The objectives of the association are CU to develop a wholesome and diversified program of games and sports to provide active opportunities for many girls rather than for a small select group, 125 to develop student-conducted activities, thus encouraging leader- ship, CBJ to encourage and promote the development of desirable health practices, attitudes, and to promote physical fitness, C45 to promote and maintain the high- est standards of high school life, and Q57 to foster a spirit of good sportsmanship and to have fun. A girl may receive a major letter if she earns 2,000 points or over in a four year period. For every 500 ex- tra points beyond the requirement for a maior letter, a gold G.A.A. pin is awarded. To remain an active member in G.A.A., a girl must maintain a total of 200 points per year. This 200 points also makes her eligible to attend the G.A.A. banquet at the end of the year. Extra points are ob- tained by being an oFficer, sportshead, and officiating games. Points may also be earned by doing such things as horseback riding, skiing, swimming, hiking, and bowling. Two girls were elected as sportshead to organize each sport. We then hear Anne's voice joining in with Mr. Frank's. There is a flashback and we see the two families that are going to live in the attic above the factory. The families are Jews that are hiding from the Nazie during World War ll. The Franks and Van Daans are later ioined by Mr. Dussel who is also hiding from the Nazis. Miep and Mr. Kraler bring news and necessities to the families. At times there is great pressure on the emotions of the families. The audience gets to meet Anne and watch her grow up. Near the end of the play when their hiding place is found, we see a mature woman ready to meet the hardships beyond. Immediately we go back to the first scene and find out that everyone has died in the concentration camps except Mr. Frank, Miep and Mr. Kraler. We also know that Anne was very brave until the end and that she believed that all people are good at heart. ONE ACT PLAY The one act play for this year was entitled, This Way to Heaven. DRIVER EDUCATIO The automobile has become so vitally important in our daily lives that many people think of a car as being almost as important as food, clothing, and shelter. It is difficult to imagine that 75 years ago there was not a single automobile to be found. At the turn of the century it was considered a rich man's toy, and few people took it seriously. To think that today we have TOO million vehicles, about one for every two people, compared to a world ratio of one car for every 20 people. lt is estimated that in 1975, the United States will have about H7 million motor vehicles. They will consume about 95 billion gallons of gas and travel about 1,2 trillion miles per year, this is a distance equal to more than lO thousand round trips to the planet mars. Along with this tremendous growth of the auto- mobile industries comes this most important problem if-35555 which was created by the use of automobiles, and that is something that concerns all of us ACCIDENTS. In the United States alone, more than 52,C people are killed annually in traffic accidents a more than three million others are iniured and c abled for life. Unless we educate safer drivers, it is predict that one out of every two children born today wil be killed or iniured in an automobile accident sor time during his or her lifetime. Through driver edu tion, young drivers may learn to help prevent t prediction from becoming a fact. The traffic saff experts feel that the high schools afford the b place to reach the largest number of potential drive Woodrow Bergner Drivers Education Instruc KIT CHE HELP to Right-S. Skubal, J.
