In Shops Boys Learn Now to Earn Tomorrow IN WOODSHOP Doug Bolen rubs the finish on an end table he is making. while l-'rank Xloriconi kibitzes. ln the fire shops boys learned skills. In print shop beginners learned to set type. while the advanced stu- dents printed the many programs, school forms, and the ,-izlllolrl. Newcomers in uoodshop used hand tools to make such objects as book racks and napkin holders, soon tackling more difficult projects as end tables and coffee tables. With power tools vocational students built desks, beds, and chests of drawers. The hum of machines filled the machine shop section. The Nlachine Shop l students made center punches, hammers. and scribers, while the vocational students made the tools of the machinistis trade. Bells rang and buzzers sounded when beginning elec- tricians started electric shop. when more proficient, they constructed a radio and took apart and reassembled a television set. ln drafting beginners sketched objects and tools in three dimensions and used sectioning to illustrate hidden parts. Advanced mechanical draftsmen drew complicated machines. and architectural draftsmen made floor plans and elevations of a house. lllfllllxfl l5l.l lfl,lllYli5 i- l'l1Ll'lf'l'f'Ii in drafting class.
