Seated: Secre- tary Ann Doolittle, President Nina Hol- derman, Vice President Linda Lowe. Bibliophiles ead and Review Tuesday: 4th and 5th hours in lO3 and l38-Book Club Donut Sale. These familiar words on the weekly bulletin announced one project of the Book Club. At each meeting a committee reviewed books by a well known author for the other members, The best reviewer received a best-seller as a prize. Sponsor Robert Could accompanied the members on field trips to Chicago to see Caine Mutiny Court Martial and to Notre Dame to hear the Longine Symphonette. Second semester officers were President lon l-lousand, Vice President Lou Christianson. Secretary Dennis Wolter, Treasurer Nancy Campbell, Historian Mary Crunwald and Reporter Bob Childress. A trip to Purdue to the Indiana Iunior Academy of Science vvhere Bob Shamo exhibited weather forecasting equipment highlighted the activities of the Science Club. The biology section members determined the effects of minerals, hormones and temperature on greenhouse plants. Other biologists helped Sponsor Earl Stine care for the beehives on the roof, ln the chemistry section Sponsor Charles Karst taught the members to use slip sticks. An engineer and a phar- macist talked about chemistry in their professions. To make money to buy equipment, the physics section, sponsored by lVlr, Dari Wood, collected and sold scrap paper and notebooks. The members savv movies on forestry, the development of light and the Nautilis, the new atomic submarine. GREENHOUSE CARDENERS mix peat moss with the soil, Barbara Deputy, Claudia Riggs and Biology Section Chairman jim Ellsasser hope to encourage plant growth. COMMERCIAL CLUB OFFICERS: Treasurer Marlene Shreve, President Veronica Tordi, Vice President Nancy Leavens, Secretary Marilyn Chaplin. Commercial Clubbers loved parties. At Halloween they watched new initiates pass oranges under their chins and unwrap candy with their teeth for entrance into the club. At their Christmas party the girls recited nursery rhymes and danced and at the Valentine party consumed punch and heart shaped cookies. It wasn't all play, All the commercial students heard Miss Salome Phleeger talk on the requirements tor a successful inter- view. Sponsor Ruth Foulke took the club on a trip to Chicago. The big event was the banquet in the spring, Commercial students anxiously awaited the announcement of the contest results, Parties Add Spice to Program lT'S SLIPPINC-!
