Chili Supper: Spanish Style Spanish customs influenced the program of Los l-lermanos, which means The Brothers. Senoritas screamed and screeched as the pinata was broken at the Christmas party. I-Xt other meetings members and Sponsor june lohnston enjoyed singing Spanish songs and hearing Spanish records. Members of the club gave a chili supper before the Muncie Burris game. These are a few of the things that the ZS new initiates of Argonauts had to do. While the remains were only jello and the worms were just cold spaghetti, they sent chills up the spines of initiates. Please rise and go to the back of the audi- torium, said the president of National Honor Society. Surprised and happy inductees heard their names called at the induction ceremonies while their parents watched from the balcony. These students were in the upper third of their classes and had been rated by the teachers on scholarship, leadership, service and character. The final selection was made by the Honors and Awards Committee. For a service project members offered tutoring services in one or two subjects. Class counselors called upon many members to help students who were behind in their school work. Officers for the first semester were President Phil Cermann, Vice President Sue Ritter and Sec- retary lanet Reed. Second semester officers were President Nancy Challinor, Vice President Don Hickman and Secretary Carole Lehman. Sponsor and treasurer of the organization is Mr. Ward Baker. SURPRISED SENIOR Don Hickman receives his pin from Mr. Baker in the October induction. ln the fall l3 seniors were honored, in the spring l3 more seniors and l3 juniors were chosen. A trip to Purdue to the Indiana Iunior Academy of Science vvhere Bob Shamo exhibited weather forecasting equipment highlighted the activities of the Science Club. The biology section members determined the effects of minerals, hormones and temperature on greenhouse plants. Other biologists helped Sponsor Earl Stine care for the beehives on the roof, ln the chemistry section Sponsor Charles Karst taught the members to use slip sticks. An engineer and a phar- macist talked about chemistry in their professions. To make money to buy equipment, the physics section, sponsored by lVlr, Dari Wood, collected and sold scrap paper and notebooks. The members savv movies on forestry, the development of light and the Nautilis, the new atomic submarine. GREENHOUSE CARDENERS mix peat moss with the soil, Barbara Deputy, Claudia Riggs and Biology Section Chairman jim Ellsasser hope to encourage plant growth.
