ROW 2: Alan De Francis, Jack Morrel, John Rocknowsky, Mike Farmen. ROW 3: Coach Dan Phillips, Tom Morgan, Greg Hum mel, Mark Ericson. Larry McGee goes inbetween two Murphy defenders for a lay- up. The Miraleste Bee and Cee Basketball teams both had great years as the Cees finished first in league and the Bees third. The Bees under coach Paul Owens finished with a 5-5 rec- ord for the season in league competition. Dick Richardson was high scorer for the Marauder team while Dave Worley was leading rebounder. Mike Wyman also proved to be a valuable asset to the team with his consistent scoring and assists. The Bees proved to be a much improved team, bet- tering last yearls league record. The Cees were unstoppable in league with a 10-0 record. They totally dominated their league with the closest margin of victory, 6 pointsf Top players for the Cee team were Greg Hummel, Larry MgGee and Mark Erickson. The wrestling team had a very slow start this year due to C.I.F. football participation. In spite of this, they finished up strong with five victories in dual meets and their second consecutive Pioneer League Cham- pionship. The Marauders had their work cut out for them as they faced their toughest opponent yet in three years. This was against Camarillo High, who had a five year winning streak until they met up with Miraleste. The Matmen just barely scratched out their win as they won by one point, twenty eight to twenty seven. In this match Joe Dean, Steve Barrett, Pete Zamfirescu, Jon Jackson, Bobby Whitaker, and Rick Mileham pinned their opponent or won by a fall. I Miraleste crowned seven league champions at the league tournament and these seven wrestlers led the way into the CIF sectional. Only two emerged from the sectional meet to advance to the finals. Steve Barrett at 130 lbs and Jon Jackson at 168 lbs led the Marauders to a fifth place finish in the final CIF stand- ings. A remarkable feat considering that these two wrestlers were the only entrants from our school. Steve Barrett became the first wrestler ever to win a CIF Championship as he won the 130 lb. title and Jon Jackson did an equally fine job as he placed third at 168 lbs.
