ROW l: Kevin Butler, Paul Schwartz, Dave Tenn. ROW 23 Reynold Greg Johnson, Brendt Lee. For the second time in a row M.H.S. reached Lee, Bob Rynearson, Bill Wells, Kevin Smith, Jim Wadell, Bob Merriam, the CIF semi-finals and lost by one point to El Dorado. The Marauders opened their 1971-72 season by winning half of their first ten games. In their first two games they faced Millikan and Mira Costa, losing close battles, but bouncing right back to defeat St. Bernards and Chaminade. These victories led them to the Hawthorne tournament, where Palos Verdes slipped by for the championship. Miral- estels starting five of Dave Tenn, Kevin Butler, Bill Wells, Paul Schwartz, and Greg Johnson battled through a tough pre-season schedule with a 5-5 record. The first victim to fall in league play was Lennox, followed by El Segundo. These victories led to a showdown with Daniel Murphy, the number one team in CIF. The Marauders held their own until overtime where they lost 43-36. St. Monica and Lawndale both lost next, with Kevin Butler leading them against Lennox. Here he set a school record of 39 points, making him a threat to any opponent. Once again El Se- gundo lost, leading to another game with the league leader, Daniel Murphy. The Marauders tried again, but failed, and next beat St. Monica. Lawndale fell next, giving the Ma- rauders their second trip to CIF. Standouts were Dave Tenn and Kevin Butler, with Jim Waddell leading a strong bench of reserves.
