arsity Water Polo Makes Fine Showing , sg, K' U., A,,z1 , P ,cg 0 A X Ls-es .M , ,,.Q. A swf? 4' EYES TRAINED on his target, Mike Patterson attempts to nail down another Marauder goal. Patterson was the leading scorer for the Varsity squad. RICK INGRASSIA through swift moves and elusive tatics shows why he was one ofthe highest scorers on the team. 173 In spite of the mental handicap of non- league competition, this year's MH Varsity water polo team completed a most success- ful season. The I0 win, 9 loss record was most deceptive since five of the losses were caused by only two schools-Palos Verdes and El Segundo fwho lost only two games out of a total of thirty-nine playedlj. The other four losses were even more heartbreaking since they were all lost by a deficit of only one point. The new Miraleste water polo coach, Randy Beardslee, certainly put it all together well, as indicated by the fine Marauder play. This year's high scorers on the Varsity team were co-captain Mike Patterson, Rick Ingras- sia, and Don Wattenbargerg these people were able to average between two and three goals a game. The fine Marauder defense was kept up by Mark Becker, Tim Personius, Rick Roe- mer, Brad Lynn, Ben Francis, and especially by goalie and co-captain Jeff Roemer. Jeff was able to keep up a very high percentage of blocked goals. All in all, the Varsity squad had a fine sea- son. With many of this year's Varsity team returning next year, along with several pro- mising upcoming players, Miraleste can look forward to another exciting Varsity water polo team. Bee and Cee squads show A feeling of pride came along with the conclusion of the 1971 water polo season for the Miraleste Bee and Cee water polo teams, and rightfully so for their combined final record of 17 wins and only 5 defeats indicates what a fantastic season they had. Both teams obviously absorbed Coach Randy Beardslee's lessons well. The Bee's, led, by the scoring ability of Rob Hromas, Jeff Lynn, and Dean Hanley often faced larger, more experienced Junior varsity teams and still suffered only three defeats. With Randy Miller and Steve Pike leading the way on de- fense, along with brilliant play by goalie Tari Taricco, the Miraleste Bee water polo team is destined for great things next year on the Mara- uder Varsity. The Cee water polo team shipped up a 9-2 record with the only two defeats going to large 'ffrosh-soph teams. Stars on offense were Scott Edson, Jerry Lecko, Paul Rabinov, and Todd Taricco. On defense, cre- ditj forthe Cee wins must go to the two outstanding goalies, Pete Grif- fith and Dan White. Each team had a large number of victories containing whopping scores against their opponants. If this sea- son's records for the Marauder Bee and Cee water polo teams are any indication of things to come, Mira- leste is sure to be a water polo power in any future league in which they are sure to be placed.
