Do you have The sTeady nerves needed To perform before a crowd? lf so, Then you jusT mighT have whaT iT Takes To be a bonafide airband compeTiTorl Numerous individuals Turned ouT for The annual air- band compeTiTion, They represenTed a varieTy of musl- cal sTyles and TasTes. The airbands involved were: Po- lice, Pebbles, SalT 'n' Pepa, UBAO, Weird Al, Cover Girls, Expose, New Order, PoinTer SisTers, AreTha Franklin, Va- pors lvlenudo, L.L. Cool J. Dana Dane, JeTs, DePeche Mode, and Two bands each of Grease, Bangles, and Blues BroThers. The explosion of TalenT made The job of UniversiTy CiTy and Serra High quesT judges difficulT. BoTh Grease groups, Pebbles, AreTha Franklin, and PoinTer SisTers advanced To The finals afTer being viewed and scored aT lunchTime. On The nighT of The airband finals, The gym was packed! Encouraging cheers and Thundering applause broke ouT during each sTellar showing. Pebbles Took flrsT place. and one of The Grease groups Took second place as decided by a local residenT, represenTaTive from Round Table Pizza and Eagle T05 radio sTaTion, along wiTh alumni. A Time-honored TradiTion, our faculTy's version of The Beach Boys. puT in an appearance. Noel Hall, Dale Thomas, Dan Regas, Ted ParenT, Don Lee, and Dennis Morgan Thrilled onlookers wiTh popular Tunes. They in- corporaTed The TalenTs of many female sTudenTs in Their seT. Many hours of rehearsals were puT in by each band To choreograph impressive dance rouTines and per- fecT lip syncabiliTies. ConTroversy concerning The legiTi- macy of The judging sysTem surfaced, buT The free splriT of compeTiTion overcame all The grumblings. BriTney Ehrlich and her assisTanT, KrisTen Logan, orga- nized The enTire underTaking. KrisTen commenTed, A loT of people don'T realize The amounT of work re- auired To operaTe This projecT, whaT wiTh obTaining funding, processing applicaTions, seTTing up equip- menT, producing programs, and recruiTing judges. Her mind was racing. See, there's this dance that's at our school. I-it's the ASB Ball. lpausel And every year, Iguess every year, kids go and dress all nice. silence. O.K., Dick, what about it? O.K., um...well...I...uh...was hoping you'd like to maybe go with...um...me? There! He said 1 it! Well, when is it? jane persised. It's March Sth. Oh! And it's formal. I was hoping to rent a limousine, go to some fancy restaurant. So, what do you say? Dick explained in record time. There was a pause as jane conjured up in her mind the scene of the dance. She remembered hearing about it. This year it was at the Sea World Pavilion. The theme, she had recalled, was Enchantment Under the Sea. And what was the theme song? she asked herself. Oh yeah! Make it Real by the jets. Yep, she thought, it all sounded so glamorous. Dick cut into her thoughts. W-well? Made up your mind? Dick asked as he wiped his palms. Dick, I'll go, but only if you promise not to wear that polka-dotted tux. lt's a deal! And...um...thanks for accepting! l...um...really...hope to...to...to...have a great time! Bye!!! Click. Phew! And they lived happily ever after. W' 1 1. Chris Kline, Holly Clifton, Michele Gosseft, jeff Freeman, Danny Lammers, and Cheryl Iones pose with looks that kill on ASB Ball night. Z.
