houts from a seemingly faraway place pierce the Monday morning silence. Bill! Are you awake? Breakfast is ready! Silence follows. Finally a muffled groan forms Bills unintelligible response. As expected, Bill, who never fully awakens from his uncontrollable sleep, misses breakfast and the 7:30 bell. With uncombed hair and glazed eyes, Bill finally staggers into class, not-so-prepared to face another five days of demanding work and boredom, all the while feeling a longing desire for Friday afternoon. The preceding sequence of events is the result of a successful weekend. The story is real but the names have been changed to protect the innocent. Although weekends are not always as devastating as BilI's, they do provide a time to socialize and have fun. A quickly- created excuse could sometimes serve as a ticket out ofthe house into a satisfying weekend. Students could always be found at one of the many nearby beaches enjoying themselves at any of several beach activities such as surfing, bodysurfing, volleyball, or just catching rays in the California sun. South of the border, T.J. attracted students each fin de semana because of its great potential for adventure and mischief. Some students joined the working class and labored hard to earn money. Those B-hour shifts on Saturdays didn't leave much room for socializing, but the monetary rewards allowed more freedom to plan future weekends. A 3 i g fili. weeicsnins WE E OUT Q .
