ln the early hours of the morning, Sept. 14, 1981, 2,818 alarms awakened the mates of Mira Mesa High. With mixed emotions of enthusiasm and dismay, the first day of the year long cruise had begun and the fresh log book was opened. Welcome aboard to a voyage full of excitement and excursions that won't be forgotten. First on the itinerary were greetings by the cheerleaders, songleaders, and the A.S.B. as schedules were issued. Checking into cabins and finding classes followed. A special orientation during first period for the frosh helped these newcomers develop sea legs for their maiden voyage. The students had boarded, and the 81-82 cruise was under way, Itinerary changes in the counseling cabin and finding the way around the different decks and gangways were common frustrations. Greeting familiar faces, seeing old friends and making new ones added to the adventure of the cruise. The weather was clear and the cruise promised to be a fine one! 4 Theme Welcome Aboard

The USS MIRADA goes out for the4'81-'82 cruise. In a city located on the Pacific Ocean, with a harbor and people of all ages involved in sports of the water, it's a natural topic to build into a theme for another year's cruise of the self contained vessel, the modern comprehensive high school. Thus, the USS MlRADA's '81-'82 cruise passed through many ports of wonders, adventures, times of personal growth and crisis, with exciting days and events for all.
