The crowd was hushed on the evening of June sixteen as the first strains of the Alma Mater brought the sound of voices of the class of 55 . With a sudden pang of sadness we realized that the last of our high school days were over, that this evening markeda major mile postin our lives. There were mingled emotions-pride, humility, happiness, sadness, and excitement. As our minds moved back over the pastfour years many happy thoughts came crowding back. The courageous, but, ohl, so very insecure freshman year as we got our first glimpse of the ever circling whirlpool of school activities, the thrill of the first pep rally with its bubbling spirit and excitement. It seemed only a few fleeting days until we entered upon the threshhold of our sophomore year to find much more self-assurance. We recall the near hero-worship and admiration of the athletes who carried our teams to championship in football, basketball, and baseball. With our junior year came the official status of upper-classman . The arrival of class rings made evident the first sad realization that the days left to us at Mira Costa were few. Our class was becoming known now as our many outstanding leaders began to appear in school activities. One warm September day we entered our Senior Year. lt was a wonderful feeling as all the other classes looked admiringly to us. But it was difficult to realize that we were Sggjggs, the exalted goal of every freshman, sophomore, and iuniorl We watched the year fly by seeing ourselves and our friends as we took the places of yester- days heroes. The last football game, the Varsity Dance, the basketball games, the Hawaiian Hop, and the Coronation Ball . These were things we would never be a part of again, the wonder- ful memories we would cherish forever. I The stirring strains of Pomp and Circumstance abruptly brought us back. ln a few brief moments the Seniors would go forward into the sunlight and ,shadows as A l um ni of Mira Costa. Yes, behind us lay the wonderful years of high school, but before us lay ......... the Worldl 22
