Face the future Greetings ! It is a great pleasure for me to once again eX- tend my greetings and best wishes to the student body and faculty of Minot State College through the pages of the 1968 Beaver. The need for education will become even more important in the years ahead. Those of you who have had the privilege of a quality education in an impressive school have a heavy responsibility to the future. I know you will meet that respon- sibility well. The pages that follow amply illustrate why each of you, faculty and students, can be proud of your association with one of North Dakota's out- standing institutions of higher learning. I congratulate the editor and staff of the Beaver for capturing so well the flavor and excitement and the hard work that has been a part of your lives at Minot State. My best wishes to each of you in the months and years ahead. Sincerely, William L. Guy Governor Front row: Allen Hausauer, Henry Sullivan, Presidentg Mrs. Elvira Jestrabg Kenneth Raschke, Commissioner. Back row: John Conrad, George Sinnerg Fred Orthg Lloyd Nygaard, Assistant Commissioner, Albert Haas. Serves as liaison The State Board of Higher Education, es- tablished in 1939, is the governing body of the nine state-supported institutions of higher learning in North Dakota. Each member, appointed for a term of seven years, must have his membership ap- proved by the state Senate. The board meets every month to review requests from presi- dents of North Dakota colleges, to approve policies and staff appointments or changes, and to make plans and improvements. This year the State Board approved addi- tions to courses at MSC such as the physics major and the German major. They also au- thorized the completion of the science build- ing, the student union, the new maintenance building, and the remodeling of Pioneer Hall. Presently under their consideration are de- grees in nursing, police science, and a master degree program. It is through action such as this that the State Board serves as a liaison between the state and the colleges of North Dakota.
