They meet monthly to discuss money rais- ing projects such as bake sales, sandwich sales, and their annual bourbon ball sale on Valentine's Day. This money is then used to rehabilitate music both here and abroad, such as helping foreign groups purchase music or phonographs. Arnola Lohse and Santa share a bit of Christmas cheer. MENC explores field of music in depth Music Educators National Conference is an organization established with a three-fold pur- pose. First of all it shows to its members the basic truths and principles which underlie the role of music in human life. It also develops in the student a practical concept as to the function of the music education profession. And finally it extends the professional inter- ests of members in areas beyond the limits of the curriculum requirements of the sponsoring in- stitution. MENC is open to all students who are majoring in music but is directed mainly to those Who will be future music teachers. This year MENC had a full schedule of events. In September they had a get acquainted party, in December a Christmas party, and in the spring their annual picnic. At each meeting they had a speaker as part of the program. Some of the topics and speakers were Dr. James Jurrens on the Concert Band, Dr. Paul Swanson on vocal music, Leon Bradley on jazz, and Hardy Lieberg on staging choirs. Because MENC met only once a month each of these speakers presented some- thing musically different each month. f 9' Santa warns Vern Notbohm that he must be a good boy and not cry. Robert Pfau waits for his turn to receive the orange from Corrine Brown.
