Fall trip sets pace for year Minot State's Concert Band received an in- vitation to perform during halftime of the Minnesota Vikings-Baltimore Colts football game in Minneapolis October 22. What did this mean to band members? It was the same week- end as Minot State's Homecoming so immediate- ly after playing for MSC's halftime members had to board the train for the Minneapolis game the next day. But the reception awarded the band from the large crowd in attendance in Minneapolis left an impression on the students that will be hard to forget. The three main activities of Concert Band divided evenly into the. three quarters. In the fall the band sponsored the All-State Band Con- cert with high school bands from the entire state having been invited to attend. During winter quarter the band presented modern and Jazz renditions of many of the popular Christ- mas songs at the pop Christmas concert. In the spring it participated in the Minot Band Day Parade in May. This marked the last official appearance of the band for the year. Plans for the future include another trip to Minneapolis and one to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to perform dur- ing a Blue Bomber's football game. This year the band made a tour of western North Dakota and eastern Montana. The pur- pose of this tour, other than the enjoyment shared by band members, is to advertise Minot State College and the music department. Many high school seniors who have seen the band in their hometown and who eventually have come to Minot State to major in music recall with enthusiasm when they first heard the band of which they are now a part. Chorus sees music in many facets At MSC any Woman who enjoys singing, Whether or not she is a music major or minor, can join Women's Chorus. She has the ad- vantage of singing with others Who Want to appreciate music more fully by sharing it With a group. The selection of various types of vocal music gives each member her favorite mode of expressing herself and gives fall the members the chance to become familiar With many kinds of music. Each year the Women's Chorus keeps busy performing for the annual Christmas Convo- cation, for the All-State Band and Chorus, and for the various music festivals at Minot State College! Each spring, culminating a year of practice, they give their spring concert and then leave on tour. This year the chorus had their home concert in McFarland Q Auditorium April 7, then left to travel through northwestern North Dakota on April 8 and 9.
