They financed the annual event with funds they earned during their sophomore year and special proi- ects they undertook this year, such as sponsoring school dances. A ff A rg 52 5 ,ff i JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS: Miss Adele Anderson, adviser, Col- leen Gefroh, secretary, Marcia Hamre, president, Phillip Cos- tain, vice president, and Judy Sternick, treasurer. Other leaders elected to head the junior class were Phillip Costain, vice president, Colleen Gefroh, secre- tary, and Judy Sturnick, treasurer. Two members of the iunior class became the school's foremost student leaders in the yearly spring Student Council elections, as the Council's president and vice president were elected from this class to serve their terms during their senior year. Pencils Add to Fund AFTER THEIR OFFICIAL welcome to Minot High school on Sophomore Day, the sophomore class settled into the routine of MHS and began working on special proiects to raise funds for next year's Junior-Senior Prom, which will be under their super- vision. Under the leadership of their class council, the class officers and home room presidents, and their adviser, Miss Helen Shepard, the class sold ice cream bars and sponsored dances and a rummage sale. They also gleaned the profits from the school's pen- cil vending machine, which goes to every sopho- more class. The officers the class elected to lead them were Brownie Shirley, president, Jim Morey, vice presi- dent, Mary Pfahl, secretary, and Betty Lou Shaw, treasurer. During the Student Council elections in the spring, a student was elected from the class to serve as Council secretary in her iunior year. The membership, which is comprised of girls from all the classes, is the morale booster for all major athletic events. Other duties they assume responsibility for in- clude the systematic election of the school's cheerleaders, the sponsorship of the annual Let- terman's Ball and the arrangements for Loyalty Day activities. They share the latter obligation with the Student Council. THE MAGI CHEERLEADERS, sport- sored by the Pep Club, added new interest and vitality to their cheers by applying peppy and snappy ac- tions to the new yells they com- posed. They spent long hours of hard practice to develop the precision needed for their synchronized ac- tions, but found it paid off as they led their school in support for their team. Glory Ann Bergren served as the substitute cheerleader and Miss Martha Holum coached the girls. yr: san -,gifs PEP CLUB OFFICERS meet with their adviser to map out new proiects. lofi Oo right: Brownie Shirley, reporter, Zetta Pedas, president, Miss Eleanor Schroeder, adviser, Sharon Seitfert, secretary-treasurer. ALEX ENCHEFF The A Cappella Choir Director A Cappella Choir I Entertain THE FIRST A Cappella Choir, directed by Mr. Alex Encheff, has musically bene- fited the community and Minot area with their anthems and choruses. Their many public appearances in- cluded numerous concerts for service clubs, radio and television appearances, a March of Dimes benefit concert and their annual spring concert. The annual Christmas concerts at the First National Bank during the yuletide week took most of their holiday concert time. Tape recordings made of these concerts were broadcast in the evening. Public with Many Concerts THE CHOIR worked together with the dramatics department to present the school's Christmas program. A special feature of this was their new Singing Christmas Tree, risers built in a tree shape. Money-making ventures occupy a good share of the choir's time, as they worked to finance their annual spring tour. These proiects were car washes and a series of bake sales. The A Cappella Choir has been selected for inclusion in the 1956 First Choir of America year- book for outstanding bands and choirs in the United States. The Minot High school entrant is the only Class A choir in North Dakota.
