A com mencement committee, composed of the Senior home- roorns, started work early in December towards de ciding on its theme and later getting up various com mittees needed for the commencement program. The Senior class council had to approve the recommenda tion of this committee, Joint meetings between the Junior and Senior coun- cils were also held to discuss the Prom. The fate and successful completion of the Senior Banquet was also in the hands of the council. Under this group, several dances were sponsored to help finance parts of Senior Week activities, The receipts from the sale of announcements and cards sold to the Senior students through the Senior council added to the class treasury. Behind the Scenes The tour originals TH ESPIANS ina Playmakers has staged two very successful three act plays this year under the direction of Mr. William Robinson. The first two were: a farce, The Happiest Days of Your Life , and the children's play Tom Sawyer. The group tried something new in pro- ducing a few One-aCT plays for assem- blies and other occasions. Members who didn't receive roles in these plays worked on scenery, props or other committees necessary to the produc- tion. A few of the social events of the year included a picnic, and the an- nual Christmas party. PLAYMAKERS President JERRY GOHEEN Vice President WAYNE SANSTEAD Secretary SUE PETERSON Treasurer CLAUDETTE LEWIS The purpose of the Pep Club is to help keep up the high spirits of our teams and school. But they also have clone many other things. This year, as in past years, the Pep Club presided over Loyalty Day activities. They also gave a Thanks- giving basket to the less fortunate people ot the city. The Pep Club formal, which was held Nov. 29, was one of the biggest events of the year. f Pf9S'd9ftf .,......... ...4.... Carlson,an advocate of the single-wing i -- W E formation, has compiled an excellent 22- B-l mark at MHS in four seasons. ART HOVDE SEASON RESUME A trip-hammer succession of key iniuries left the 1952 Minot High football safari buried under six layers of sand in the Western Conference with one battle won, four conflicts lost, and one tie skirmish-3-4-1 for the entire campaign. The diversity and mobility of the Magicians' normally deceptive and powerful single- wing offense was cut down sharply due to the ineffectiveness of ailing ace perform- ers. Despite the somewhat mediocre year, the Maroon and Gold had several in- dividual standouts-halfback Bob Fieland and tackle Bob Gelnett, All-Staters, guard Jim Wolfe, 2nd team, and end Bill Anderson and center Dave Cheney, honorable mention. The year's first game, played here Sept. 5 aginst Devils Lake, resulted in an effortless and impressive 20-0 win. The Minot defensive play was superb and Fieland smashed for 6 or 7 yards every carry. On Sept. 13, the Magi and strong Fargo Midgets battled for three scoreless periods before the Easterners counted on a blocked punt. Fieland, however, took the ensuing kickoff on his 10, dodged to the 40 where he bulled through three tacklers, stiff-armed another at the 50 and went all the way. Fullback Don Schoenwald cracked for the extra point and Minot went on to a sensational 13-6 triumph. Fieland reeled off 199 yards rushing at St. Mary's, but the smooth Saints romped to a 33-21 verdict. Schoenwald started proceedings at Dickinson with a bang by taking the opening boot back 70 yards to the Midget 20. Minot, however, playing without six regulars, was hard-pressed to gain a 13-6 victory. The tricky Williston Coyotes, eventual state co-champs, raced to an exciting see-saw 19-12 Loyalty Day win here Oct. 10. At Mandan on Oct. 17, the Magicians racked up a 12-0 advantage in short order but fumbled away other opportunities and were tied, 12-12. Magician morale slumped to an all-time low ebb against Jamestown on Oct. 24 and the speedy Jays copped the decision, 18- 6. With seven starters on the sidelines, the Minoters were trounced, 38-7, at Bis- marck on Oct. 31. Two Demon scores came on deflected passes and two others were set up by fumbled kicks.
