4:1 jagi .H , i 1 X ' u iv Preparing for contest was the major task of the band members this year. Under the direction of Mr. Lestina , the band attended the State Band Contest on March 16 , at Shabbona School. The organization received a sec- ond place rating for its presentation of Citadel , Overture in C Minor , and ' 'Heritage Overture. A very successful venture by a group of bandsmen was the formation of a jazz band . This group also attended the State Contest. They played Ruben and Rachel Swing , Too Much Blues , and Waterme1on Rock. The jazz band received a first place rating. Many outstanding individuals in the band were also recognized this year. At the State Solo and Ensemble Contest, held at Saratoga school on March 30 , Minooka musicians received twenty-seven firsts and fifteen sec- onds . f1', THE-JEBGND

Chess Club was an interest- ing activity for both beginners and masters of the game. Under the guidance of Mr. Cassetto and Mr. Yunker, the students participated in a number of tournaments during the year.
