A very successful venture by a group of bandsmen was the formation of a jazz band . This group also attended the State Contest. They played Ruben and Rachel Swing , Too Much Blues , and Waterme1on Rock. The jazz band received a first place rating. Many outstanding individuals in the band were also recognized this year. At the State Solo and Ensemble Contest, held at Saratoga school on March 30 , Minooka musicians received twenty-seven firsts and fifteen sec- onds . f1', THE-JEBGND Chess Club was an interest- ing activity for both beginners and masters of the game. Auditions were held in the first weeks of school for those who wished to join. Directed by Miss McCormick, the chorus rehearsed three times a week. The reward for their hard work came when they received many first place ratings at the contest. The Drama Club , sponsored by Mrs. Flatness, presented a fall play, Badlands Ballyhoo. Many hours of rehearsal went into this successful prod- uction. The club members worked with the chorus to present the Christmas program.
