FOOTBALL SEASON I The 1952 football season was a success, regardless of our'won and lost standpoints. Injuries to big players, like Stack, Ruestman and Rooker, before the season got under way hurt our cause. The opener with Cornell was hard fought and could have been a victory for the Mohawks, but inexperience cost us our chance. Our first win was a decisive one over Flanagan, but Coach Pierce was not present due to illness. The next three Fridays found us outmanned, outplayed, outweighted, but not outfought against three strong teams, Chenoa, U High of Normal, and Fairbury, We then hit the come-back trail only to lose two close ball games, one to Gridley at our home- coming, and the other to Mid-County. Determination played a big factor in our 13-6 victory over Lexington. The season ended with our defeat at the hands of the strong El Paso Eleven. This year's team was mainly com- posed of underclassmen, consisting of ' boys like Larry Bearss, Bob Schmitz, Bob Lehman, and others who did their share of the work. For a few of the 'uniors on the s uad J Q v it was their first varsity experience. Boys such as Rooker, Elliott, and Arahood come under this heading. Only three seniors finished out the year in football. These three, although the record they are leaving in games won is not too good, played a arge part in the teaching of the unlerclassmen and in the preparation of them for a future favorable SCBSOI1.
