F I KY 'Q is Xa 'Y 6 .D 2' 3 ACTIVITIES The M.D.H.S. Chorus has been quite busy this year raising money for choir robes. Some of the money-raising activities have been selling candy, sponsoring movies, presenting variety shows, and selling at games. Due to the hard work of all chorus members, beautiful royal blue robes with white stoles have been purchased. The chorus made its first appearance this year in a fall concert. There have also been Christmas and spring concerts. This year special groups have been formed, including a boy's quartet, girl's sextet, girl's ensemble solos, and duets. These groups have performed at the churches, clubs, and organizations of Minonk. NANCY AMES President 30 A ,, M-aqdvgt, Whether they are playing at football or basketball games, during an assembly, or on parade, the Mohawk Band, under the direction of Nlr. Don Smith, adds life and pep to the occasion. Our Marching Mohawks put in an appearance at every home game and even followed the team to U. High. The concert band has taken part in exchange assemblies performed for basketball games and entertained at seasonal concerts. The dance band has also furnished music for our pleasure at various requests. Evelyn Dunham, Presidentg Joyce Grampp, Vice Presidentg Martha Eikenmeyer, Secretary: Glenn Weber, Treasurer. COACHES Pierce and Golden Wesley Rooker Jack Jochums t Don Huffman Bob Lehman NTQIC Jon Johnson Bobby Schmir FOOTBALL SEASON I The 1952 football season was a success, regardless of our'won and lost standpoints. Injuries to big players, like Stack, Ruestman and Rooker, before the season got under way hurt our cause. The opener with Cornell was hard fought and could have been a victory for the Mohawks, but inexperience cost us our chance. Our first win was a decisive one over Flanagan, but Coach Pierce was not present due to illness. The next three Fridays found us outmanned, outplayed, outweighted, but not outfought against three strong teams, Chenoa, U High of Normal, and Fairbury, We then hit the come-back trail only to lose two close ball games, one to Gridley at our home- coming, and the other to Mid-County. Determination played a big factor in our 13-6 victory over Lexington. The season ended with our defeat at the hands of the strong El Paso Eleven. This year's team was mainly com- posed of underclassmen, consisting of ' boys like Larry Bearss, Bob Schmitz, Bob Lehman, and others who did their share of the work. For a few of the 'uniors on the s uad J Q v it was their first varsity experience. Boys such as Rooker, Elliott, and Arahood come under this heading. Only three seniors finished out the year in football. These three, although the record they are leaving in games won is not too good, played a arge part in the teaching of the unlerclassmen and in the preparation of them for a future favorable SCBSOI1. .
