CLASS HISTORY Twelve years ago in September 1940, thirty young and healthy boys and girls started their first journey to Minoa High School. At the first grade door, we were greeted by Miss Lucille Field, our first teacher. The class consisted of the following pupils: james Assimon, Ernest Cooper, Robert Cushing, Bemard Gallery, Otto Hayes, Richard McKinley, Robert Mekkelson, Douglas Philo, Alfred Sanford, jack Sanford, Richard Sutfin, Willard Thorpe, Ciuarles Witt, William Butler, William Pollock, Galen Jeffery, Suzanne Butler, julia Carney, Marguerite Cooper, Marilou Freytag, Betty Hess, Beverly Hess, Rita Kippley, Beatrice Meehan, Marian Peters, Betty Ratliff, Nancy Shenton, Pauline Lowe, Mary Vona, and Marjorie Welch, Second grade was a grand success with Miss julia Warren as our teacher. The majority of us passed into the third grade where we had Miss Mildred Naatz as our teacher. In this third year we added Roderick Hunt, Edward Sutfin, Eugene Vona, Alfred Maramao, and Wilma Thorpe to our class. In fourth grade we had Miss Dorothea Wyman as our teacher. Lyle Kneeskern, john Magill, Alfred Taylor, Robert Woolridge, Dana Wells, Betty Bender, Lorraine Bennett, Diane Nixon, Bar- bara Roberts, and Edna Woolridge joined our happy growing class at this time. Mrs. Ruth Burch was our fifth grade teacher. Among our achievements were the Thanks- giving program and a Poinsetta March in the Christmas Program. At this time we added joe Gor- goni, Leo LaClair, Donald Schroeder, john Giocondo, Richard Ogden, Lawrence Lenning, and Margaret Leach to our number. As sixth grade came nearer to us, we couldn't help but work a little harder because next year we were to be in junior High School. Miss Virginia Fizzelbrand taught us all our sixth grade literature. Loretta Peek, Lorraine Brown, Rowena Sidoran, Lucy Steele, Regina Shumer, Shirley Baum, joe Campany, Leonard Ring, Alan Parkhurst, Bernard Brunotte, Harold Oot, Donald and Norbert VanAntwerp joined us here. We entered seventh grade with a bang of lockers and books. Many students from the country schools joined us in junior High School. They were: Kathryn and Shirley Courcy, Francis Hill, Irene Leach, Alice Luce, VioletPhilo, janet Brownell, Mildred Sutton, Mabel Teske, joan LaHarr, LeRoy Beechner, Gerald Rolfe, Robert Smith, Fred Hayes, Leslie Hill, George Spendle, Stuart Wilhoite and Tom jones. Mrs. Fromey and Mrs. McIntyre were our first 'Home Room teachers. Eighth grade was even more exciting than seventh because we had to be prepared to try regents examinations injune. Mrs. Schwartz and Miss Green were our home room teachers this year. Once again our class increased with Nancy Atwater, Rita and Violet Bargabos, Ellen Damon, Suzanne Birchler, Mary Krebs, Marlene Hickey, Stanley Barney, Richard Thompson, Bradford Weeks, Ronald Wilcox, Richard Kneeskern, james Callahan, Everette Roberts, Donald Schroeder, and Stanley Nash. After a long summer vacation in 1948, we returned to school to find ourselves as Fresh- men in Mrs. Ransier's room. Our class which now numbered 43 was the largest in the school. During this year we gained the following people: jack Barrett, Ray and Shirley Brubaker, Cather- ine Force, joan McNeil, Shirley VanAllen, -Helen jones, Ronald Lum and joe Ostrowski. Our first class officers were: Leonard Ring, President, Bernard Gallery, Vice Presidentg joe Gorgoni, Secretary, and Nancy Atwater, Treasurer. Some of our projects were bake sales and social hours. Mrs. Werching, Mrs. Collins, and Miss Smith were our home room teachers in our sophomore year. Our class officers were joseph Gorgoni, President, Catherine Force, Vice President, Rita Kippley, Treasurer, and Mary Vona, Secretary. This year our projects were two social hours and the sale of sweatshirts. Marilou Freytag, Veta Smith, Marilyn Stemberg, and Lucy Steele joined us this term. In 1950 most of us were promoted to the junior Home Room. We worked extra hard in this year to add money to our treasury. We published the Minoa Trumpeter , sold magazines, held a chicken supper, and a Harvest Hoedown with the guidance and help of our home room teachers, namely Mrs. Werching and Mr. Bazydlo. Our class officers were joe Gorgoni, President, julia Carney, Vice Presidentg Mary Vona, Secretary, and Rita Kippley, Treasurer. From juniors we soon rose to Seniors with Miss Fariell as our home room and English teach- er. Edward Sutfin and Violet Bargabos joined us in our last year of high school to help us with our final projects. Our English class presented 'Adventure Bound a 3-act comedy, which was a grand success due to the help of our advisors and all the class members. Our other projects were bake sales, social hours, a Senior Ball, a Chicken Supper. We all helped to make this yearbook and our Senior Trip possible. Our Class Officers for the Senior year were President, julia Carney, Vice President, Leonard Ring, Secretary, Mary Vona, and Treasurer, Lucy Steele. We gained and lost many students along the way but ended up with a very pleasant, hard working group of sen- iors.
