X We dedicate this year book, of the class of 1952, to the boys from our C0mmul1- ity, who are now serving in the several fields of the military, at home and in far places, in order to preserve for us,the many freedoms that we enjoy. To these boys and those who preceded them in military service, we owe-our very existenceg the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! May God restore peace to this world so that the service of the boys will not be in vain and that freedom for all mankind will reign on this earth again. 3 X VHH N21 U3 j O DH SEI PRINCIPAL MR. LEE RISING We members of the class of '52 are most grateful to our prin- cipal, Mr. Rising, for the many kind and helpful things which he has done for us during our years in school. He has helped us in many waysp with both individual guidance and class activities. His personal interest in each of us has made our school life bet- ter and more worth while. We will all remember our pleasant relationship with Mr. Rising and wish to him and Mrs. Rising the best success in the future and in the classes that succeed us. BOARD OF EDUCATION FIRST ROW Mr Stanley Kellish Mr Hugh Butler Mr Donald Schaff, Mr. Lester Worfel SECOND ROW Mr Edward Hoppe Mr Lee Rising Mr Fred Todd RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTORS Rev Sheldon B. Stephen son Rev. Norbert Schead 'Individual man owes his first allegiance and responsibility only to God . Today, the world is beset by concem that men and women have lost the capacity to distinguish between right and wrong. People are shocked by the state of public morality and are gravely concerned that our moral fiber has been damaged. A large part. of the world has been trying to live without God, but laws of morality cannot be violated any- more than the laws of science. The State of New York is very fortunate in having a Board of Re gents which accepts the fact of cooperative responsibility of school and church and synagog and home for the spiritual education of young people. The Minoa High School community is indeed extremely fortunate to have clergymen of the type and quality of Rev. Stephenson, Father Nor- bert and Father Englebert, to lead and guide the moral and spiritual development of its Youth. Their sympathetic understanding and cooper- ation are to be cherished jealousy, for this harmony cannot be found in every community. To the Youth, these men issue the challenge 'Go forth and follow Christ all the days of your life. L. R. R. Maxwell All other members ofthe class helped in some way in building this book as a class proiect. We are Seniors now, that is trueg Thus, in june, with school we're through. When we look back o'er the years We think of the happiness we've known, Of our first and many fearsg And ofthe kindness our teachers have shown. We remember our attempt to have a paper drive, And our disappointment when it was denied. ln our second year there were magazines and memo pads to be sold. When this was well done, we became more bold, So then we sponsored several dances Which, we dare say, started some new romances. As our treasury steadily grew We approached our junior yearg And this, of course, we knew Meant our last term was near. For instance, the chicken supper was a big success, Although the aftennath was quite a mess. The school paper was published toog And its importance was not surpassed. We conquered that year okay And now we're on our way, To struggle through our last yearg Which we know we'll hold most dear. We have had our last chicken supper, And it was again a success. So now we're preparing our yearbook, Which we hope will be the best. Soon we'l1 leave on our senior trip to New York and Washingtong And then we'1l return to skip Ahead to the final run. The last feat of all Will be the Senior Ball. To end our high school years Will be commencement and graduationg And we wish our successors many good cheers. Thus we start a new life to fulfill our ambitions. D.L.P CLASS HISTORY Twelve years ago in September 1940, thirty young and healthy boys and girls started their first journey to Minoa High School. At the first grade door, we were greeted by Miss Lucille Field, our first teacher. The class consisted of the following pupils: james Assimon, Ernest Cooper, Robert Cushing, Bemard Gallery, Otto Hayes, Richard McKinley, Robert Mekkelson, Douglas Philo, Alfred Sanford, jack Sanford, Richard Sutfin, Willard Thorpe, Ciuarles Witt, William Butler, William Pollock, Galen Jeffery, Suzanne Butler, julia Carney, Marguerite Cooper, Marilou Freytag, Betty Hess, Beverly Hess, Rita Kippley, Beatrice Meehan, Marian Peters, Betty Ratliff, Nancy Shenton, Pauline Lowe, Mary Vona, and Marjorie Welch, Second grade was a grand success with Miss julia Warren as our teacher. The majority of us passed into the third grade where we had Miss Mildred Naatz as our teacher. In this third year we added Roderick Hunt, Edward Sutfin, Eugene Vona, Alfred Maramao, and Wilma Thorpe to our class. In fourth grade we had Miss Dorothea Wyman as our teacher. Lyle Kneeskern, john Magill, Alfred Taylor, Robert Woolridge, Dana Wells, Betty Bender, Lorraine Bennett, Diane Nixon, Bar- bara Roberts, and Edna Woolridge joined our happy growing class at this time. Mrs. Ruth Burch was our fifth grade teacher. Among our achievements were the Thanks- giving program and a Poinsetta March in the Christmas Program. At this time we added joe Gor- goni, Leo LaClair, Donald Schroeder, john Giocondo, Richard Ogden, Lawrence Lenning, and Margaret Leach to our number. As sixth grade came nearer to us, we couldn't help but work a little harder because next year we were to be in junior High School. Miss Virginia Fizzelbrand taught us all our sixth grade literature. Loretta Peek, Lorraine Brown, Rowena Sidoran, Lucy Steele, Regina Shumer, Shirley Baum, joe Campany, Leonard Ring, Alan Parkhurst, Bernard Brunotte, Harold Oot, Donald and Norbert VanAntwerp joined us here. We entered seventh grade with a bang of lockers and books. Many students from the country schools joined us in junior High School. They were: Kathryn and Shirley Courcy, Francis Hill, Irene Leach, Alice Luce, VioletPhilo, janet Brownell, Mildred Sutton, Mabel Teske, joan LaHarr, LeRoy Beechner, Gerald Rolfe, Robert Smith, Fred Hayes, Leslie Hill, George Spendle, Stuart Wilhoite and Tom jones. Mrs. Fromey and Mrs. McIntyre were our first 'Home Room teachers. Eighth grade was even more exciting than seventh because we had to be prepared to try regents examinations injune. Mrs. Schwartz and Miss Green were our home room teachers this year. Once again our class increased with Nancy Atwater, Rita and Violet Bargabos, Ellen Damon, Suzanne Birchler, Mary Krebs, Marlene Hickey, Stanley Barney, Richard Thompson, Bradford Weeks, Ronald Wilcox, Richard Kneeskern, james Callahan, Everette Roberts, Donald Schroeder, and Stanley Nash. After a long summer vacation in 1948, we returned to school to find ourselves as Fresh- men in Mrs. Ransier's room. Our class which now numbered 43 was the largest in the school. During this year we gained the following people: jack Barrett, Ray and Shirley Brubaker, Cather- ine Force, joan McNeil, Shirley VanAllen, -Helen jones, Ronald Lum and joe Ostrowski. Our first class officers were: Leonard Ring, President, Bernard Gallery, Vice Presidentg joe Gorgoni, Secretary, and Nancy Atwater, Treasurer. Some of our projects were bake sales and social hours. Mrs. Werching, Mrs. Collins, and Miss Smith were our home room teachers in our sophomore year. Our class officers were joseph Gorgoni, President, Catherine Force, Vice President, Rita Kippley, Treasurer, and Mary Vona, Secretary. This year our projects were two social hours and the sale of sweatshirts. Marilou Freytag, Veta Smith, Marilyn Stemberg, and Lucy Steele joined us this term. In 1950 most of us were promoted to the junior Home Room. We worked extra hard in this year to add money to our treasury. We published the Minoa Trumpeter , sold magazines, held a chicken supper, and a Harvest Hoedown with the guidance and help of our home room teachers, namely Mrs. Werching and Mr. Bazydlo. Our class officers were joe Gorgoni, President, julia Carney, Vice Presidentg Mary Vona, Secretary, and Rita Kippley, Treasurer. From juniors we soon rose to Seniors with Miss Fariell as our home room and English teach- er. Edward Sutfin and Violet Bargabos joined us in our last year of high school to help us with our final projects. Our English class presented 'Adventure Bound a 3-act comedy, which was a grand success due to the help of our advisors and all the class members. Our other projects were bake sales, social hours, a Senior Ball, a Chicken Supper. We all helped to make this yearbook and our Senior Trip possible. Our Class Officers for the Senior year were President, julia Carney, Vice President, Leonard Ring, Secretary, Mary Vona, and Treasurer, Lucy Steele. We gained and lost many students along the way but ended up with a very pleasant, hard working group of sen- iors. As we near the end of our High School Days, it makes up happy to realize how much fun we've had throughout all the twelve years of school. , J.E.c. - D.B.G. 'IQ DIAPEIZ DAZE QF' 'FQ 93 ! . ala! The train left at 6:40 and we ar- rived in New York a little after noon. We had our first experience in a New York taxi cab going from Grand Central Station to the Hotel Victoria. After a very quick lunch, we started our sight seeing tour of Upper and Lower Manhattan. The tour included visits to the Bowery, Chinatown, Cathedral of Saint john the Divine, and past homes of some well-known people. That evening some of us went to the Roxy Theater. The next morning, Easter Sunday, we went to church, some to St. Patrick's Cathedral, and the others to Marble Collegiate Church. That afternoon we went to Rockfeller Observation Roof and for a subway ride. The rest of the afternoon was free. At night we attended a movie and stage performance at Radio City Music Hall. On Monday morning a trip to the Statue of Liberty was scheduled, however, this was cancelled and we took a ride on the Staten Island ferry. After that we went shopping. We' spent that after- noon on the train going to Washington. We arrived at the Hotel Ambassador about 7:00 to find Mr. and Mrs. Rising waiting to greet us. The next morning we went to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing where we saw the making of bills in process. Later we visited the Washington Monument and the Pan American Building. In the afternoon, 'Father Flanagan'L our bus driver, drove us to Mount Vernon where we saw Wash- ington's home on the Potamac and his tomb. On the way back we stopped at the National Airport and Arlington National Cemetery where we saw the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the chang- ing of the guards. We also saw the ampitheater with stone Seats. That night some of us went to The White House and talked to one of the guards. Wednesday moming was a little bit rainy, but it cleared later. We went to the Lincoln Memor- ial and afterwards to the Rock Creek Zoo where. we saw many fine specimens of animals. After a very hasty lunch, we visited the Franciscan Monastary with its replica of the whole life of jesus Christ and many beautiful statues. Thursday morning we had our picture taken in front of the Capitol. Later we went through the Capitol and saw where the Senate and House of Representatives meet. We also saw the Supreme Court Building, Folger Library, and the Congressional Library. That afternoon was open and most of us went shopping. At 4:00 we left for the Pennsylvania Station to board the train for New York. We arrived in New York at about 9:00 and boarded a New York Central train at Grand Central about 11:45. We arrived in Syracuse at 5:03, Friday morning, a very sleepy but happy group of Seniors. We, the members of the senior class, feel very fortunate that we were able to take such a won- derful trip. Not only did we experience the social side of such a trip, but also we derived a great educational value. Many of the buildings we visited and things we saw showed us how great our country is. We realize also that our trip was longer than schools of our size usually have. We are grateful to all those who contributed in any way to its success and especially to Mr. Maxwell who spent many hours in its planning. 21 inn i V Q N, www-M , K R 'X '77 CLASS WILL Katheryn Courcy, Violet Bargabos wills her ability to sew in Homemaking. This extends their unbeaten record to 29 straight. Since midseason of 1942, Minoa has won 46 of 47 games. This record is believed one of the best in the country for six man football. The team scored 303 pts. while their opponents scored a total of 88, an average of 43.2 per game for Minoa, with an average of 12.4 for the opposition. Dick Moynihan led the scoring with 86 points while Len Ring was a close second with 74. In the Annual East West Championship game, Minoa defeated Camillus 19 to 12 in a hard fought battle at Griffin Field, thereby becoming the Onondaga county champions. After the football season closed, the players and coaches received a banquet by Mr. George Rees, former Board of Education President. Players were given individual trophies and nine seniors who finished their eligibility had never tasted defeat. The scoring for the year went as follows: Minoa Opposition 37 .lame svill e 14 66 Tully 18 48 F abius 12 57 Onon. Cheerleading tryouts were late in June, Practice followed very soon. Then the day we waited for cameg All nervous and excited we cheered our first game. Basketball - tho we liked that best And tho we played with the greatest zest The games we won were very few, But what can you expect from such a crew. The trampoline appeared with its big bounces, And tumbling removed some of our ounces. The Spring Festival, which we skipped last year Came back again with many a cheer. April began with softball in sight, Outdoors, at last, in the sunshine bright. Archery came last with its far flying arrows, It surely is luck we didn't hit any sparrows. The Girls Athletic Association ls known throughout this great nation. We all look forward to our trip in May For this is the highlight of the G.A.A. As these four years have come to a close And out into the world each senior goes, We'll treasure these memories of Minoa High, Friendships and loyalty will always stay nigh. M.R.F.-C. A.
