Americans, for years, have given people from other countries the impression that we think of ourselves as being better than them. But after spending time with Americans and getting to experience our culture. these thoughts can change. Minnetonka was lucky to get the chance to host 10 foreign exchange students from various European countries and Japan this year. Voyageur was even luckier to be able to talk with them about their likes and dislikes of American society. We talked about food, school, and members of the opposite sex (are they better here or in Europe???). France Keyser, a junior from France, was quick with her dislikes: hamburgers. peanut butter, all perfect makeup and perfect hair. The main problem other students had was the fact that we're so spread out. You need a car to get everywhere, said Sofia Pettersson. a senior from Sweden. Teenagers here are dependant on parents for a car, added junior Pablo Ripolles. here. This group also agreed that members of the opposite sex are definately better in Europe. European girls are more extroverted — here, they worry too much about their looks. We also found out that European guys are much better looking and that it is easier for european girls to know guys as good friends. School is also different here — most of the students agreed that our school was a lot easier. Pablo added that there are no such things as ‘credit requirements' in Spain: there’s more specialty Ten brave students came here to learn about and experience our lifestyles. Hopefully, they will not only learn about us — but we will also learn about them, and ourselves.

Lower Left: Michael Melloy. Work Study is a part of MHS designed for those students who want something different than the regular curriculum. The students take required courses in English and History and have one hour in the work study classroom. Then they go to their designated jobs to work. Most kids in this program go to school from 7:30 to 11:30 and work the rest of the day. As the teachers, Jerry Eng-wall and Joey Townsend say, “They are learning job seeking skills. During that hour of work study, many skills such as budgeting are taught to give the students a realistic view of life. They also make it a point to read the newspaper so they are aware of what's going on in the world. Work Study
