Conveyances With Wheels Ah-the good life in Minnetonka. A 1985 article in the Minneapolis Star and Tribune reported that Minnetonka has a higher income per household than any other community in the metro area (including Edina). Many Tonka students can boast that they left their Mercedes or Porsche at home, but in most cases it doesn't really belong to them, but instead to their parents. Not all of the students here at MHS are rich. That's part of what makes us all so different. The truly great cars in Minnetonka are found in the MHS parking lot (yes, right here at our own school). They are full of personality, memories, and in many cases, rust. These cars, owned by students, faithfully transport many of us to and from school every day. At night they make it possible to go out without having to ask that demeaning question, Dad, may I please borrow the car? On any given day you can walk out into the parking lot and see a variety of different kinds of cars. Stationwagons sit next to Jeeps and sportscars. There's a brand new convertible parked next to a junker that is so rusty it looks like it's going to fall apart. Any color of the rainbow you could imagine can be found here. From a 1955 Dodge to the latest edition of just about any kind of car, you want it we've probably got it. Some of these cars even have names. The Green Machine , Pepe , and The Oldsmobile can be frequently seen in the parking lot. Minnetonka is really a school of diversity: different people, personalities, political beliefs and CARS. As Chris Royse once said, Thank God we live in Minnetonka. Ptge 8 Iop right: Kierstcn Hall and Kathleen Flannigan on Kathleen's car. Bottom right: Phil Weir.
