MR. WIlLIAM O. NIlSEN Superintendent Excelsior; St. Olaf College, B.A.; University of Minnesota, M.A. The thought for today might be You're go- ing to spend the rest of your life in the future - why not build toward it now? Sometime ago, I read an account in the Associated Press regarding the Boston school committee recommendations to the high school students of that city. I thought that it made sense. What do you think? Here are their suggestions: Don't let your parents down. They brought you up. Stop and think before you drink. Be smart, obey. You'll give orders your- self someday. Ditch dirty thoughts fast or they'll ditch you. Show-off driving is iuvenile. Act your age. Pick the right friend to be picked for a friend. Choose a date fit for a mate. Don't go steady unless you're ready. Love God and your neighbor. Live carefully. The soul you save may be your own. The best of everything to the Class of 1956, is the wish of all of us at Minnetonka High. William O. Nilsen We like to think that there will be clear sailing for the seniors of 1956, and for cer- tain periods of time in your lives there will be. However, our purpose in school is to prepare students to be able to cope with situations that will be met while in school and after leaving school. A ship that sails the ocean must be self- sustaining, and the preparation before the iourney starts is most important. As we observe the preparation that the seniors have made and the success that they have achieved, we feel assured that the journey will be accomplished with outcomes that will be most beneficial to all mankind. Each person in his way, no matter how small he may think his part is, can work wonders if many think and act in a like manner. To be firmly, anchored to the precepts of good living will do much to help you steer a straight course toward the goal you have set. Congratulations, seniors. Your happiness and success in life will be a reflection on the school which so proudly graduates you. Harold l. Larson MR. HAROLD I. lAlSON Principal Excelsior; Gustavus Adolphus College, 3A.; Univer- sity of Minnesota, MA.
