Zofeacfaaazoffccm There s a hard road ahead thought many a Junior as the school year of 52 53 rolled into view To begin with we were entering a brand new school building We were coming from Excelsior and Deep haven and we were being Joined by many from out side the district In addition to the task of getting acquainted with one another we were faced with the normal duties which concern every Junior class As the first days of school passed the road began to stretch ahead a broad smooth highway along which we moved a united class On September 22 we held our first class meeting during which we chose Tom Smith Dennis Andrada, Marlin Dalbec Frances Wutala and Sharon Anderson as our prest dent vice president secretary treasurer and his torian respectively Like all Junior classes we assumed responsibility for the annual Junior Senior Prom With coffers sad ly lacking capital requisite for this undertaking our first money raising project the magazine sale was inaugurated Outstanding salesmen were Mike Herz and Lester Koehnen Together they sold over S300 worth of subscriptions Following the magazine sale the play cast began to get their production MEN ARE LIKE STREETCARS into shape With the money from the magazine sale and the class play plus returns from dances and concession stands we were able to meet Prom expenses with little trouble As the year progressed we held numerous class meetings in an effort to plan for the Prom select class rings and take care ofbusiness in general Then in April we elected Katy French Fran Wntala and Tom Smith to Girls and Boys States With the coming of spring the Prom committees began to make final arrangements and work out last minute details. Moonlight and Roses was selected as the theme for the Prom and Les Williams was hired to furnish the dance music On Thursday May '7 the Junior-Senior Banquet was held in the Minnetonka High School lunchroom. Highlight of the evening was speaker Al Clague with his endless supply of jokes. The dance was held the following evening in the Automobile Club With the Prom over the days passed quickly ln spite of the operetta track meets baseball games band trips and other activities we managed to take time out for final exams. At last school was over and we could look back on a very successful and pleasant year as the first juniors of Minnetonka High When the doors of Minnetonka were opened for the second year, some five hundred students swarmed into the building led by one hundred twenty-six seniors After the excitement of seeing old friends teach- ers and classrooms subsided we set ourselves to the task of electing class officers for a new term. Tom Smith repeated as president, and Masasinge fPanchol Beman was voted vice-president, and Katy Lou French, Marce Burger, and Dick Parks were named treasurer. secretary, and historian. Z na-I OFFICERS Dick Parks, Masasrnge Beman Marcella Ber ger Tom Smith Katy French Our initial project of the year was the football homecoming which was scheduled for October 16 Edina was to be our opponent on the gridiron and with their colors in mind we chose Tee off on the Green as our war cry Joanne Johnson was elected queen and her attendants were Fran Wirtala Jackie Fink Pat Ernst Katy French and Ioan Sundberg De spite the fact that our Skippers were swamped by the Green Wave the spirits of the M H S students remained high and dry and the whole affair was a success We seniors were the best dressed students in school on the 27th and 28th of October Haga Studios was on hand to take senior pictures and everyone con- cerned did his best to look sharp Records show that as a class we were above aver- age scholastically We can look back on that record as an indication that we had a good teaching staff to guide us With the coming of spring all thoughts of school seemed to cease as our minds underwent their annual spring changeover Visions of the senior trip the prom and graduation were foremost in the minds of nearly all seniors As the final weeks slipped by excitement and tension began torise as we prepared for the Prom and finals We ll long remember the mad scramble into Minneapolis for tuxes formals and hairdos- and who will forget that sleepy Saturday following the big night. At last. the evening of June 4th arrived. and we became the second class to graduate from Minne- tonka High.
