GOT S NERVE V. After a bad season last year, the 1977 football team made this one of the most exciting seasons ever. The Vikings had a hard time building up their momentum because of a 36-2 loss to Clarkfield. Decidedly disappointed, the gridders fought back to even their record by beating Cot- tonwood. With a loss to Adrian and a win over Hills-Bea- ver Creek the Vikings went on to edge Tyler at Home- coming 6-0 on a rain slick field. Led by Tri-Captains Bruce Breyfogle, Mark Paulson and Dave Pennings, the team went on to end the season with a respectable 5-4 win-loss record. For the rest of the week tension and excitement grew. Thursday night the annual pepfest was held and through the skits and speeches everyone was anxiously waiting for the crowning of the Queen. All eyes were on the royalty as they were introduced and escorted to the stage. With an undaunted spirit and the vision of a dream the 1977 girl's volleyball team made this one of the most successful sea- sons ever in the history of the school. Led by Coach Smith and Assistant Coach Gigstad the team seemed to become an unstop- ping machine with only one thing in mind .... the district tour- nament. After an extremely hard game against Russell the Vi- kings dream was broken in the second of the district games when they lost a well fought match to their local rival Cottonwood. And suddenly the world of 19th century, Civil War tom America came to life on the Minneota stage. Under the artistic direction of Miss Berger and the technical direction of Mr. Snorek, the school presented the play LITTLE WOMEN. A play in three acts by John D. Ravold, based on the novel by Louisa M. Alcott. The cast was led by Cindy Drown, Sue Tillemans, Jody Peterson and Trudy Wig- ness. The story told ' 'deals with the great- est of human emtions - a mother's love for her children and their appreciation of it, and her''. As the audience ceased its applause and slowly filed out, they all knew that they had been made to feel the true meaning of Ravold's ' 'Little Women''. 10 BOTTOM LEFT: Cast Picture. Many long hours were spent practicing but every min- ute was worth it! A few of the highlights of the year were the Christmas routine performed to the tune Jingo Jango'1 and the annual flashlight routine. They performed this routine to the popular movie theme song, 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind''. This is portrayed in this picture entitled ' 'The Plentiful Pep Club Gang ! '' The pep of MHS this past year was really great, especially among the girls, but the boys were another case. BOTTOM LEFT: The members of the M-Club gathered together to have their pictures taken in the gym. The M- Club is an orgaization that recognized the athletic achievements of both guys and gals. It consists of the athletes who have lettered in any particular sport. The athletes, Cheerleaders and Pom-Pom Girls were honored once again at the annual Athletic Banquet sponsored by the Minneota Jaycees. The athletes, Cheerleaders and pom-pom girls, would like to at this time express their ' 'Thankx'' to the Minneota Jaycees for sponsoring such a lovely thing. The athletic program at Minneota is a very efficient program. One of the main reasons it has been so successful is because of all the work that Mr. Gerald Ol- son put in to it, as the Athletic Director. We also would like to thank him for all his work. ' 'Thank You, Mr. Ol- son. 1' 24 With a new adivsor, new layouts and new typesettings the work on the 1977 - 1978 Viking Ventures began. After just a few meetings the editors soon discovered that assembly of a yearbook was not an easy job. The scheduling of pictures and the writing of copy were not the least of our headaches. As the year progressed, all depart- ments began to realize that from misplaced dummy sheets, miss- ing pictures, broken rulers, and unfinished 3-R's would come an organized annual. The seventh hour study hall, established for work on the annual, often continued into after school time as members of the staff worked diligently to meet their deadlines. This years staff included (Standing) Jackie Kompelien, Trudy Wigness, Janet Pesek, Gretchen Hammer, JeanHennen, Nancy Koch, Betii DeCock, Robin Boe, Becky Bottleberghe, Deann Ho- berg, Grace Hoffman, Val Gillund, Darla Neisius, DeeDee Brey- fogle and Sharon Panneck. A special 1 'Thanks'' to Mr. Herb Pagel for the extra hours he devoted to this book. Many of the photographs contained in this yearbook were made possible by the Photo Club. Again, we say THANKS ! It is really hard to write what I feel about Minneota on a few lines in this annual. First of all I would say that this has been one of the most wonderful yean of my life. I have learned many very important things during this year. I have gotten a lot of experience, have met many nice people and now 1 know about the people in the USA, especially in Minneota, very small in size but huge on cordiality and love. Thank you very, very much for all the wonderful aspects of the life in Minneota and nice times that I have had this 77 78.
