Minneota Cottonwood • • Minneota Marshall Sports The 1950 Football Season started out with a bang with a victory- over Ruthton by a score of 1+5 to 0. The Vikings faced little opposition in the next game and beat Hanley Falls 60 to 12. Tyler, the Conference Champs to be, got the scare of their lives as the Vikings played heads up ball to walk off the field with a 16-0 halftime lead, but Tyler proved to be the champs they were and scored well in the second half to win 1+0 to 16. Homecoming was successful as far as the Vikings v ere concerned. They beat their rivals Ivanhoe 28 to 20 for the first time in a number of years. The first annual Parents Night set the stage for the next game, which was played with Boyd. The Vikings walked all over the Boyd six with a score of 62 to 7 With two regulars out the Vikings reached their peak of the season against Hendricks. Behind by two touchdowns in the third quarter the Vikings pulled it out by winning 2U-20. The last game of the season found Minneota hitting a defensive low as Lake Benton won 69 to 1+1. Two men were placed on the All-District team, Capt. Don Roberg at Quarterback and Donnie Hanson at End. Both were unanimous choices. This brought to a close a very successful season. Review With the end of football season our thoughts turned to the hard- wood courts. Minneota started out by winning three straight , then losing five in a row. One of these loses was to the smooth working Canby outfit which is now one of the teams in the State tournament, bidding for the State championship. The Vikings then started with a win over Hendricks, to initiate one of the longest winning streaks a Minneota five has had in many years, with eight in a row. In the District Minneota played Marshall and was defeated 59-1+5 Individual scoring went to Don Roberg with 311 points for an 18 point average and a shooting percentage of 1+3  Capt. Don Hanson was second with 211+ points for a 13 average and a shooting percentage of bS% Don Roberg also had the highest free throw percentage with ?5 out of 96 for 7o . Capt. Don Hanson was picked on the All-District team at center. Don Roberg was picked at forward on the All-Camden Conference team. It will be difficult to replace these two athletes who were chosen for All-District honors in both football and basketball. Gene Korraan and Donovan Hovland, both seniors, will be missed for their scrap and aggressivness. Danny Brewers and Eddie DeBaere, the other two seniors, were very faithful In turning out for practice all year. '- hen they got into the game they played good ball. Next year’s team will be a very proraisinr ball club with fo ir lettermen returning. They are: Don Nicholson, who was elected Capt. for next year, Benny Brewers, Jimmy Swanson, and Louie Leland. The B team did not have an impressive record but they gained a lot of valuable experience for the years to come. Although Minneota lost their first game in the District tournaments, the season was a success with 11 wins and 6 losses.
